In today’s fast-moving and ever-changing world, spa-goers are scouting around for quick services. They need relaxation and stress release in a jiffy. And that’s what makes express spa treatments the new wellness buzz.

Quick healing

While there are various kinds of massages available, an express spa therapy is very soothing and has a quick healing quality. “It is the go-to therapy for people who have monotonous desk jobs that results in long-term backache. The therapy helps to release the stiffness in the body and opens energy communication pathways that begin and end in our hands and feet, thereby influencing the entire body,” points out Laltlanpari Varte, Spa Manager, Conrad Pune.

Take a pick
Express spa treatments usually focus on the neck, shoulder, head, back and feet. At Conrad, the bestselling treatments comprise Reflexology and Shirobhyanga. “The feet are a reflection of a person’s health. They are the energy channels in a person’s body that promote healing and relaxation. Through Reflexology, the body’s healing system is stimulated. The reflex points induce a sense of well being and equilibrium. The Shirobhyanga therapy, on the other hand, is effective for easing headache, stress and insomnia,” highlights Laltlanpari.

Super dry
The Express Treatment Pod is a unique feature at the Spa at JW at JW Marriott Sahar Mumbai, offering treatments as a simple indulgence. “The two express pods (chairs) allow our guest to revive with a 12-, 25- and 40-minute dry massage for the back, neck, shoulder and hands. Aptly suited for the business traveller, our guests can walk in to relax, unwind and de-stress with our dry massages on specially designed express chairs and experience a moment of serenity,” shares Mahima Sharma, Spa Manager, Spa by JW.

Glow baby, glow
Express facial provides an instant glow just before an event or a business meet, taking the skin tone a notch higher. The quick but thorough facial at Shine Spa for Sheraton, Sheraton Grand Bangalore Hotel at Brigade Gateway includes cleansing, toning, exfoliation, a customized mask, an appropriate eye cream, a treatment serum, and a final skin cream. It also boasts a brief, soothing massage for neck and face, without any extractions.

Don’t miss it
According to Migmar Lhamo, Spa Manager,Shine Spa, if the express spa category is missing in the spa menu, there is a loss of approx. 35 per cent of business. “Spas have re-engineered their menus to offer 30-minute-or-less treatment options to attract business travellers. One of the spa directories has listed express treatments as one of top 10 trends for quite a few years. You see, an express treatment is shorter and easy on the pocket – the perfect alternative for business travellers to balance leisure and work hours,” she elaborates.

The next big thing

‘Wellness, health and fitness’ is undoubtedly the new mantra in the spa industry. “With health and fitness gaining popularity among the travelers, their demands have evolved. They are looking at selecting a spa that not only provides wellness solutions but also focuses on health and fitness,” emphasises Laltlanpari.

Migmar seconds this: “The wellness wave will be hitting the spa industry very soon, with more individuals getting conscious about their overall well-being and in an attempt to maintain a healthier lifestyle,” she states.

For a new-age spa to survive competition, an express treatment is a must-have on its menu.
