Under the Bio-Bridge project, The Body Shop, together with Red Panda Network, will work towards protection of red pandas. The brand will build a Bio-Bridge in Nepal to save the endangered species that at threatened because of deforestation.
The Red Panda Network uses an integrated, landscape level approach to red panda conservation. It conducts research and monitoring, education and outreach, habitat protection and restoration. It also undertakes sustainable development initiatives. The Body Shop will be a partner in educating local communities. It will also work at restoring core red panda habitats. Reforesting degraded forest areas and plant red panda food will also be part of this.
Anyone who buys the Himalayan Charcoal Mask and Himalayan Charcoal Soap will be a part of the initiative. From every purchase the brand will contribute Rs 28 as donation / contribution for the cause. Both these products use bamboo charcoal instead of charcoal recovered by burning trees. This makes it more sustainably sourced.
By buying this soap or mask, a consumer can contribute to rehabilitate 250,000 sq m of red panda habitat. The global donation target is a minimum of ?€50K to red Panda Network over a two-month period.
