While nail art is a great way to enhance and embellish your nails, the international runway is undoubtedly the go-to guide for nail trends and manicure ideas. From the imperfect manicure to gingham patterns and transparent nails, it’s time to up your talon game.

Outline manicures
The Jeremy Scott show during New York Fashion Week S/S 2019 boasted the most exciting nail trends. The backstage nail artist went the extra mile to create the pattern by outlining the edges of ballerina pink nails. Take round nails with an opaque or nude base a notch higher with a darker shade for outlining the edges or vice-versa. The pro tip: Settle on shades like pink, black or cobalt blue to achieve the nail trend.

Glam and glitter
Accentuate your tips and toes with a stunning glitter mani in dull gold, aqua blue and rose pink. Try to be subtle in terms of shimmer – you can either apply it as nail paint or keep rest of the nails natural with shimmer nail paint on just one finger. Caution: No ring or stud piercings please.

All ’bout shine
The high-shine nail trend in metallic olive, silver, and diamond blue has taken up the chrome mani to newer heights. Give it a shot with holographic heart tips.

Metallic finish
This nail trend from 2018 is moving into the 2019 scene, too. We aren’t just ready to let go metallic hues. What’s more, they can now be mixed and matched at will – from muted to copper. Well, you don’t choose anymore – you just mix and blend.

Lunar beauty
The vintage vibe of half-moon nail trend has been seen all over the catwalks over the past few years. Get creative and leave a semicircle of cuticle with no polish. This gives you enough room to experiment with the rest of your nails using your favourite hues or whatever floats your boat.

Trend meter
The new trend is acrylic nails, which look like an unfinished manicure – but more and more people are loving this, especially in bubblegum pink hues.

To round things off, one classic nail trend that is rocking the scene is pearls that can be stuck to your nails. The good thing about the embellishment is that you have the flexibility to choose one or many, depending on the length, the texture of your nails and the shock value you want to disseminate.
