Hospital in Pune launches a salon for employees

by Arun Shirishkar

In a bid to ensure absolute hygiene and keep their staff from contracting infection from external sources, the Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital has taken a unique step, and is now offering spa and salon services to its employees.

The Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital (ABMH) in Pimpri-Chinchwad, is calling salon services, an essential service. The hospital has been running the facility for almost four weeks now — and the initiative is deeply appreciated by its staff.

The increased workload
The hospital, with over 800 people on its rolls including doctors, nurses, paramedics and other health care workers, decided that beyond treating patients, it would also tackle hospitality and laundry needs of the patients.

Grooming, an essential service
The facility started in the last week of May, caters to both men and women, providing them with haircuts, pedicure, manicure and other hair and skin-related services. The salon is open between 10 am and 5 pm and has been catering to 20-25 staffers every day. It follows a strict protocol on infection control with masks and gloves mandated and running checks on the temperature of its staff and those coming in for the services.

Insights
“The salon and spa ensure good personal hygiene of our staff which is critical to health care and so we considered it an essential service. Utmost care is being taken to ensure infection control. Our staff members visiting salons and spas outside once the lockdown restrictions were lifted posed the risk of them getting infected with the pandemic still very much in the scene.” said Rekha Dubey, chief executive officer of ABMH, as per an article in Pune Mirror.
