The HJ’s 36th British Hairdressing Awards 2020

Hairdressers Journal’s 36th British Hairdressing Awards sponsored by Schwarzkopf Professional were conducted in a virtual ceremony and streamed online, invited people from all over the world to be part of this glorious event. The 2020 finalists and biggest names of hairdressing industry gathered online to celebrate that recognises the very best in British talent, which keeps the UK at the forefront of the hairdressing world each year.

A Different Kind Of Awards Night In 2020
HJ’s executive director Jayne Lewis-Orr said during her opening speech: “2020 has been a year like no other. The pandemic has meant that salons have been closed for many months and we’re still dealing with the challenges it presents. Yet despite these difficult times, the hair industry has demonstrated yet again just how resourceful, creative and resilient it is. Tonight, is all about continuing that positivity as we join to celebrate the industry’s talent.”

Thus, it only seemed fit to recognise the standout talent from the industry and come together to celebrate.

Mark Moloney, managing director of the Professional Beauty Group said: “These awards epitomise the industry’s passion and excellence. Thank you to Schwarzkopf Professional and the HJ team for your steadfast support in making tonight happen and well done to all nominees and finalists”

A special BHA20 award playlist was curated to get the finalists and members of the hairdressing industry get in the party spirit and TV presenter Rylan-Clark Neal hosted the evening and kept the show going.

And The Award Goes To..
Sally Brooks of Brooks & Brooks, won the prestigious British Hairdresser of the Year award for third time this year. While collecting her award, Sally said “I’m so shocked. We’ve just proved as an industry how resilient we are. I don’t think this award should have my name on it, it should have hairdressers everywhere on it – Hairdressers United! Thank you to my photographer friend Jenny Hands and to my team who are so supportive. A massive thank you to Jamie Brooks for supporting my ideas. We’re all really good friends, and everyone pulled it out of the bag this year. HJ and Schwarzkopf Professional you have done an incredible job tonight. Congratulations to everyone tonight – everyone deserves this award.”

There were multiple awards handed out in the regional categories and specialist categories.

Mark Leeson at Mark Leeson Salons and Martin Crean at Mode were announced as the latest additions to the BHA Hall of Fame, which spotlights previous winners which stretches back as far as 1987.
