It’s Important To Believe In Yourself And Your Ideas

by Priyanka Parshurami

On International Women’s Day, Priyanka Parshurami from Professional Beauty India interviews Ravina Jain, Founder, The Skin Story.

The Indian beauty industry is now buzzing with vibrant and promising women entrepreneurs. Through their innovative ideas, products and strategies these budding entrepreneurs are helping the Indian beauty industry grow leaps and bounds. Professional Beauty India’s Priyanka Parshurami conducted an exclusive interview with one such aspiring entrepreneur, Ravina Jain, Founder, The Skin Story

Here’s the excerpt from the interview:

You started your career as an entrepreneur in 2015 with a fashion accessory brand, followed by another successful stint with a wellness and nutrition brand in 2018. So, what motivated you to leave it behind and enter the beauty and skin industry?

I always had the knack for fashion, nutrition & holistic wellness. So, when I started street hopper, a fashion accessory brand, I wanted to understand how the ecommerce, selling & distribution works. It was a pilot scale of business to understand the market dynamics.

When I entered the nutrition space, with Bodyfirst, I understood nutrition is 100 per cent needed. But alongside nutrition a lot of things are needed to build a holistic approach towards wellness. As a result worked on launching skincare & beard care ranges.

Why the name ‘The Skin Story’?

The name ‘The Skin Story’ suggests that the brand is focused on the skin and the unique tales of each individual’s skin. Overall, the brand name is intended to convey the brand’s focus on individuality, simplicity, and storytelling, all of which may appeal to customers who are looking for a skincare brand that understands and celebrates their unique skin story.

What makes skin story stand out from his competitors in the skincare industry?

We have unique formulations. And we launch products with guaranteed results. We also have manufacturing and R&D support. Our brand vision is to be there in each & every home; we want to create products that build trust. I do not launch anything which I would not use & which is not serving any purpose.

Can you shed some light on your professional range?

It’s not range is the next big thing we are looking at. Awareness about taking care of their skin and hair is on an increasing trend. Hence planning to launch a holistic professional range for all customers. From  hair spa to facial we would like to focus on a holistic beauty regime. We are already selling in two salons with great results. Our hair care, shampoo & conditioners are used post keratin treatments. And for Spa we have our masks and everything which is used.

What are your expansion plans with The Skin Story?

Our plan is to expand the product line; it is one by introducing new products or product lines that cater to different skin types, concerns, or preferences.

Secondly we are also considering geographic expansion by targeting new geographic markets & introducing our Professional range in the market. This could involve establishing a physical presence in new regions or developing a strategy to sell and distribute products internationally.

Another way to expand is by investing in marketing and branding efforts to increase brand awareness, holistic wellness and customer loyalty. Lastly by incorporating sustainable practices throughout its business operations, the brand will appeal to customers who are increasingly conscious of the environmental impact of their purchasing decisions.

On the occasion of women’s day what message would you like to share with the budding women entrepreneurs?

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, my message to budding women entrepreneurs would be to never give up on their dreams and to keep pushing forward despite any obstacles they may face.

It’s important to believe in yourself and your ideas, even if others may doubt you, just keep on working resiliently and be passionate towards whatever sector you are.

Surround yourself with a supportive network of mentors, peers and allies who can offer guidance, feedback and encouragement along the way. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and seek out resources and opportunities that can help you grow and develop your business.

Stay focused on your goals, but also remain flexible and adaptable to changes in the market and industry. Embrace failure as a learning opportunity and use it to refine your approach and strategies.

Above all, remember that your gender should never hold you back from pursuing your entrepreneurial aspirations. You have just as much potential and capability as anyone else, and your unique perspective and experiences can be a valuable asset in creating innovative solutions and driving positive change in your community and beyond.

Where do you see the brand 5 years from now?

In five years, I see my brand as a leader in the industry, known for its innovative products and commitment to sustainability. We will have expanded our product line to include a range of skincare solutions for all skin types and concerns. I want to have concern related products and also holistic approach towards wellness and beauty with a focus on vegan & cruelty free ingredients.

Our brand will have a strong presence both online and in retail stores, with a loyal customer base that values the quality and effectiveness of our products. We will have established partnerships with influencers and beauty experts to promote our brand and share our message of self-care and self-love.

We will have also implemented sustainable practices throughout our business operations, including PCR packaging giving back to our community and the environment through various initiatives.

Overall, I see our brand as a successful and respected player in the skincare industry, making a positive impact on the lives of our customers and the world around us.
