Lotte Duty Free Launches New Eco-friendly Packaging

by Arun Shirishkar

THE WHAT? Lotte Duty Free has launched biodegradable packaging such as bubble wrap and paper bags to replace plastic, in a bid to lead the industry with its eco-friendly offering.

THE DETAILS The Korean retailer is said to be looking to make a pioneering step within the industry and “take the lead in creating an eco-friendly ecosystem” for its in-store packaging and across its distribution network.

Lotte created a biodegradable vinyl, which was trialled at its Incheon logistics centre and airport store last month, and will now be rolled out across Korea by the end of April.

THE WHY? The new sustainability move is the latest green development from the retailer, which is expected to help save around 200 tons of vinyl waste with the biodegradable packaging options.

Lee Gap, Lotte Duty Free CEO said, “Lotte Duty Free has been making various efforts to solve the problem of waste vinyl.”
