On the eve of 49th World Environment Day, Priyanka Parshurami gives us a lowdown about ‘Kiahmoi’, Mumbai’s first vegan boutique salon.
Every Year, 5th June is celebrated as World Environment Day. And each year there is a specific theme for this celebration of day, which provides us with an opportunity to be responsible for our conduct as an individual, enterprises, and communities in preserving and enhancing the environment. And this year’s theme is ‘Only One Earth’. It calls for transformative changes to policies and choices to enable cleaner, greener, and sustainable living in harmony with nature.
Their Philosophy
The Co-founder of this salon, Shruti Jain is a vegetarian by birth and turning Vegan owing to her love for animals. She believes in the philosophy, ‘if alternative options are available, then people should make use of those options instead of harming other living beings for their needs’. Thus she started this salon as a way of giving back to the society – to give them a choice, instead of being forced to visit salons which are not 100% Vegan.
All their services use products, which are 100 per cent vegan and premium, sourced from across the world. Also, everything in the interiors as well as the food and beverages served at the salon are vegan.
What ‘Kiahmoi’ stands for
The combination of 2 words – Kiah and Moi, the name ‘Kiahmoi’ literally translates to “My beautiful transformation with the strength of nature, done wisely” and represents the true meaning of the brand.
Unique Sustainable Features
“We serve 100 per cent vegan food to all our customers in the salon. We use bamboo tissues instead of the one’s made from trees and also the leather use in the furniture is a specially crafted vegan leather.
As a salon who equally cares and is responsible for the environment, we conduct lot of Vegan and Cruelty Free community engagement to create awareness in the society.”
Different from other Eco-conscious
“Being eco conscious wouldn’t necessarily mean using 0 ingredients coming from other living beings – animals, birds, insects, etc – nor having products not tested on animals.
For us, everything from interiors to products to the food and beverages served at the salon are 100% Vegan. Nothing taken from living beings nor tested on them. 100 per cent cruelty free and sustainable.”
