Raman Bhardwaj is an important name in Kolkata as he has not only a successful salon to his credit but also a flourishing academy.
Raman Bhardwaj, Director, AN John Salons and Academy, is one of the most popular and well-respected hairstylists in the city of Kolkata. He began his journey 21 years ago, and since then has won a number of awards and accolades for his many achievements. He has trained at prestigious international academies, such as Vidal Sassoon, Toni&Guy, and SAKS, to name a few. Currently, AN John has five outlets and a hair academy, all located across Kolkata. The brand is currently working on some new and interesting projects. AN John would be venturing out of Kolkata some time soon.
A sea of change
Undoubtedly, 21 years is no short period of time. And, it is obvious that the world of hair and beauty must have experienced a sea of change in this period. Bhardwaj has seen the highs and lows, the good days and the not-so-good ones, too. Speaking about this, he says, “On a personal front, I can say that there have been challenges and changes since I started my journey. Now, coming to the hair and beauty industry in Kolkata, in general, we can say that it has been developing over the last decade or so. Barber shops have moved to salons and hair salons have gone a notch above to premium luxury segment.”
Speaking about the current salon market in Kolkata, Bhardwaj notes that the market there is growing steadily, with new salon brands coming up every now and then. With respect to the trends, he shares that while the trends in Kolkata haven’t changed much, there is definitely a change in consumer spend across salons. With numerous options available across various products and brands, consumers have a wide variety to choose from today. And, all this comes together to show that the city is getting increasingly aware and conscious of the world of hair and beauty and wants to learn and explore more and more about it.
Kolkata has always been a very interesting market, in terms of hair and beauty. It has a unique mix of people, who, on the one hand, want to stick to traditional styles and looks, while on the other hand there is a section (not that big in size or numbers, of course) that is highly experimental. These extremes makes this City of Joy quite eclectic yet exciting in its own way!
