Ex. Maharashtra CM, Shri. Devendraji Fadnavis to present beauty & wellness community issues to the state government

Wellness ambassador, Rekha Chaudhary organised a meeting which was addressed by Shri. Devendra Fadnavis on 8th June 2020, via Zoom conference. Professional Beauty India, which has long been a part of the Beauty & Wellness industry in India, was honoured to be a part of the conference call. The agenda of the meeting was to discuss and put forth the grievances of the Beauty & Wellness industry amidst the pandemic. Seasoned professionals which included Spoorthy Shetty from Bblunt, Samir Srivastav from JCB, Uday Thake who is an industry veteran, Charvi Gupta from Lotus Herbals amongst others were in attendance for the virtual conference.

Issues raised by the industry
In this hour-long meeting, it was brought to his attention that in spite of the Central Government along with many state governments have allowed salons, beauty parlours and barbers to operate, Mumbai stands as an exception to this situation. Hence, this industry which has come together from small too big as one requests to get permission to reopen their business.

The Beauty & Wellness industry which caters employment to more than 70lakh + plus people has come to a standstill for the last 75 days and they have been suffering without any business being generated. The salons, parlours and barbers were looking for both monetary assistance as well as business opening, including waivers in few months’ rentals and MSME support as most of the industry are individual entrepreneurs and the main bread winner in their families.

The obstacle of steady income
The Barbers Association and women led parlours put light on how they and their families are suffering due to lack of income as few of them are sole bread earners of the family. It was also discussed as to how the salons that have started operations are doing good work, following hygiene protocols and customer feedback is good. And unlike them how the big and small salons are ensuring that even they follow guidelines and training immensely for adapting to new normal hygiene protocols and ensure their customers safety.

Importers issue
Mr Fadnavis does intend to take up the topic of challenges faced by importers about being heavily penalized in these times for not moving stock out of customs during lockdown with the concerned authorities on priority as even he agrees to the plight of many suffering from this situation.

Ending on a positive note
This meeting ended on a positive note, where the EX Maha CM Shri. Devendra Fadnavis acknowledged all the raised issues and assured the Beauty & wellness industry that they will discuss all their concerns with our present CM, Shri Uddhavji Thackeray and joint secretary.

The entire industry is hopeful to hear a positive response from the ministry over the next few days post Mr. Fadnavis presented their case for reopening of salons in Mumbai and Maharashtra.
