0

Vikas Marwah has his roots firmly placed in hairdressing and is now a name reckoned with expertise in hair styling and education.

From his debut as a celebrity stylist to the owner of Vikas Marwah Salon & Academy, the Mumbai-based hair master has come a long way in the industry. Take a sneak peek into his inspiring journey through his own words.

The initial phase
My father was a hairdresser — I remember and cherish those wonderful moments of learning the basics of hairdressing from him. Later, I pursued my hair education abroad and interned with reputed stylists. I came back to India to work with celebrities and models while gradually starting my own chain of Salons.
Taking the right decision at the right time – for instance, when to start my own salon’s chain and weighing the pros and cons was one of my biggest challenges.

The industry – then & now
The hair industry is continuously evolving and improving by the second; there is always something new to learn in this field. It could be a cutting technique or a better way to retain your clientele with improved after-service. This industry embraces newcomers as well and is always open to new ideas and challenges celebrating the achievements of salons and stylists alike.

The inspiration
My mentor is Sam Villa, the iconic hairdresser from the U.K whose brilliant hair cutting and styling skills have been an immense inspiration. The work of Late Vidal Sassoon has also inspired me over the years.

Training & more
I still learn the latest trends from magazines and attending conferences, workshops, etc. at least once a year when I go abroad. I never miss my refresher course to keep myself updated on what is trending in hairdressing, cutting, colouring, and styling all over the world. Also, I have an affinity towards enhancing and bringing my A-game to the table when it comes to hair colouring. Nevertheless, all three – cutting, colouring, and styling are my strength and complement each other.

Trends and Plans for 2019
Blow-drying is back and how! Colour trends like smokey grey, purple and pink is here to stay too, and micro-braids in hair styling. Having established my work in the hearts of celebrities and others alike, I further aim to broaden the horizons of the hair care education sector. Understanding client’s perception and feedback, and transforming our services accordingly to best suit the evolving needs of our client is my plan to take the business forward.
