The Beauty & Wellness Sector Skill Council (B&WSSC) recently completed a decade of outstanding achievements. A grand Convocation Ceremony marking the milestone took place on June 25, 2024, at The Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre.

A grand Convocation Ceremony celebrated 10 successful years of B&WSSC‘s endeavours and achievements. Shri Jayant Chaudhary, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship graced the event. He highlighted B&WSSC’s significant contributions to skill development and empowerment in the beauty and wellness sector.

The ceremony began with a Ganesh Vandana dance and Shankh Dhwani. Then the traditional lighting of the lamp by Chief Guest Shri Jayant Chaudhary took place. He was accompanied by Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary MSDE; Shri Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO NSDC; Dr. Blossom Kochhar, Chairperson B&WSSC; Dr. H.R. Nagendra, Vice-Chairperson B&WSSC; Ms. Gurpreet Seble, Treasurer B&WSSC; and Ms. Monica Bahl, CEO B&WSSC, along with other prominent dignitaries.

A notable highlight of the event was the certification of candidates from the LGBTQIA+ community and acid attack survivors. It emphasised the importance of creating an inclusive and diverse skill ecosystem. Shri Jayant Chaudhary encouraged the candidates. He also appreciated them for their spirit and commitment towards building a successful career in the beauty and wellness industry. He also unveiled the B&WSSC’s Coffee Table Book, “Lakshaya: Transformative Tales of Empowerment.”

In sync with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of making India the Skill Capital of the World, B&WSSC offers several NSQF-aligned skill courses under the Skill India Mission. These courses provide livelihood opportunities and foster entrepreneurship. Also, B&WSSC collaborates with state governments to promote skilling initiatives for underprivileged and marginalised groups. These include widows, prison inmates, school dropouts, acid attack survivors, and transgenders. Over the past decade, B&WSSC has trained more than 13 lakh entrants under this mission.

Shri Jayant Chaudhary remarked that the global beauty and wellness sector is a promising sunrise industry, and India has notably outpaced global growth in this sector. Over the past nine years, B&WSSC has achieved remarkable milestones and has created various job roles with a strong focus on women empowerment and entrepreneurship. He also congratulated the graduates for their resilience and willpower, thereby emerging as leaders within the vibrant industry. Among them are inspiring acid attack survivors who have become champions of their own stories.

The Minister also highlighted the sector’s immense growth, attributing it to India’s demographic dividend. He stated that the beauty and wellness industry is likely to provide job opportunities to over 3 crore people by 2030. It is also poised to contribute to a Rs. 5 lakh-crore industry with significant prospects across the Asia-Pacific region. As our country strives to become ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047, the vigour and dynamism of its skilled workforce will be the driving force behind the sector’s success.

The convocation further celebrated the achievements of students from industry-funded programs and the integration of new-age technology in beauty courses. It also highlighted B&WSSC’s collaborative efforts with various stakeholders.

Notably, the beauty and wellness industry is recognised for its inclusivity and empowerment. With women currently making up 66% of the workforce — the numbers are projected to reach 70% by 2030. Furthermore, this sector is increasingly becoming gender-neutral. It offers equal opportunities for all, bolstered by initiatives from the government and private sector to promote skill development nationwide.
