CES 2026: Beauty Tech Innovations Set to Transform Professional Beauty

From AI-powered skin diagnostics and personalised formulations to smart hair tools and connected wellness devices, CES 2026 offered a glimpse into how technology is reshaping the beauty industry. 

Beauty technology has moved well beyond virtual try-ons and Instagram filters. At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, the industry’s latest innovations focused on a more significant shift: using technology to make beauty more personalised, measurable and connected. 

Artificial intelligence, advanced diagnostics, smart devices and customised formulations were among the major themes at this year’s show. Many of the innovations also pointed towards a closer relationship between technology and professional beauty, with salons, spas and retailers emerging as potential spaces for these tools to be used. 

Here are some of the beauty tech developments that stood out. 

AI Is Becoming the New Beauty Advisor 

Artificial intelligence was one of the strongest themes at CES 2026, particularly in skin analysis and product recommendation. 

L’Oréal’s Kiehl’s Derma-Reader 2.0, a CES Innovation Award honouree, uses AI-powered imaging to analyse more than 11 skin attributes. The system captures nine high-resolution images using three types of light, before generating a colour-coded analysis that can help Kiehl’s Skin Pros create personalised skincare routines. 

Amorepacific also presented its AI Beauty Mirror, developed with Samsung. The system uses three cameras to analyse characteristics including: 

  • Pores 
  • Redness 
  • Melanin 
  • Wrinkles 

It then makes recommendations based on a database of more than 45,000 cases. Importantly, the technology is designed for use in retail, salons and spas, rather than being positioned purely as a consumer gadget. 

For salons and spas, AI-powered diagnostics could provide another layer of information during consultations. Rather than replacing the professional, the technology can potentially help make consultations more structured and recommendations more personalised. 

Hair Technology Shifts from Repair to Prevention 

Hair technology at CES 2026 reflected another important consumer shift: protecting hair while styling it, rather than repairing damage afterwards. 

L’Oréal showcased the Light Straight + Multi-styler, which uses near-infrared light alongside heat to style hair. The company says the technology operates at temperatures below 320°F, compared with conventional styling tools that can reach 400°F or higher. 

The tool is designed to reduce heat-related damage while reshaping the hair fibre. L’Oréal expects the device to launch globally in 2027. 

As consumers become increasingly concerned about hair health, tools that combine styling performance with damage reduction could become an important part of the professional conversation. 

For salons, this could translate into:

Cosmax’s maXpace, another CES Innovation Award honouree, is designed to create customised beauty products at the point of experience. 

The system can produce personalised: 

  • Skincare 
  • Foundation 
  • Lip products 

It uses consumer skin data and preferences to determine the formula before dispensing and hygienically mixing the product through modular cartridges. This represents an interesting evolution of personalised beauty. Instead of simply telling consumers which product to buy, technology can potentially help create the product itself. 

For retailers, salons and beauty businesses, that could eventually mean highly customised experiences without every individual formula needing to be manufactured centrally. 

Skincare Devices Are Getting Smarter 

At-home skincare devices are also becoming more sophisticated, compact and integrated into everyday routines.  L’Oréal presented a flexible silicone LED Face Mask measuring just one millimetre thick. The prototype uses red and near-infrared light and is designed for 10-minute daily sessions, with a global launch expected in 2027. The company also previewed a flexible LED Eye Mask. 

Meanwhile, Lancôme showcased the Renergie Nano-Resurfacer, which uses silicon nanochips to create micro-channels in the outermost layer of the skin. The concept draws inspiration from professional resurfacing and microneedling treatments, while being designed for a consumer skincare routine. 

Another innovation, SkinBoosters JET, uses needle-free micro-atomisation to deliver topical actives into the upper layers of the skin. These technologies reflect a growing overlap between: Skincare + Devices + Professional Treatments 

Consumers are becoming more familiar with technology-led beauty experiences, while brands are developing products that attempt to bring elements of professional treatments into the home. 

For professionals, this makes education increasingly important. Consumers will need help understanding what an at-home device can realistically achieve, when professional intervention is more appropriate, and how different technologies fit into an overall skincare routine. 

When the Packaging Becomes Part of the Technology 

One of the more intriguing developments came from Nuon Medical, which is exploring smart packaging that incorporates sensors, light therapy and near-field communication. 

Depending on the application, the technology can: 

  • Analyse hydration and skin texture 
  • Visualise UV damage 
  • Provide red or blue light therapy 
  • Connect product use with digital information 

The idea challenges the traditional role of beauty packaging. Instead of simply protecting and dispensing a formula, packaging could become an active part of the treatment and diagnostic experience. 

For beauty brands, this creates opportunities for greater differentiation. For salons and retailers, smart products could eventually provide additional information that supports consultations and product recommendations. 

Beauty and Wellness Continue to Merge 

The line between beauty and wellness was increasingly blurred at CES 2026. Ceragem showcased its Balance AI Rejuvenation Shower System, which combines smart sensors, water treatment and personalised skincare delivery. 

The system analyses factors including: 

  • Hydration 
  • Oil levels 
  • Elasticity 
  • Pigmentation 

It can then adjust water chemistry and dispense customised blends of active ingredients. 

Ceragem also presented its Master AI Multi-Therapy Rejuvenation Pod, which brings together multiple technologies, including LED skincare, oxygen infusion, thermal therapy and spinal alignment. The concept reflects a broader shift in consumer expectations. Beauty is increasingly being viewed as part of a wider approach to wellbeing, recovery and self-care. 

Even Nails are Getting an Upgrade 

The technology revolution has reached the fingertips. iPolish presented Press-On Smart Nails, an electronic system designed to change nail colour through a connected mobile device. Users can select from up to 400 colours, with the chosen shade transferred to the nail using a rechargeable wand. 

The concept transforms nail colour from a relatively permanent choice into something that can be changed according to: 

  • An outfit 
  • A mood 
  • An occasion 
  • A trend 

It also demonstrates how even established beauty categories can be reimagined through connected technology. 

What CES 2026 Means for the Professional Beauty Industry 

The biggest takeaway from CES 2026 may be that beauty technology is becoming less about novelty and more about integration. 

AI is being used to analyse skin. Devices are delivering active ingredients. Smart packaging is collecting information. Machines are creating customised formulations. Hair tools are increasingly focused on fibre health, while wellness devices combine multiple treatments into connected experiences. 

For salons, spas and retailers, the opportunity lies in understanding where technology genuinely adds value. The most successful businesses may not necessarily be those with the largest number of devices or the most advanced gadgets. Instead, they could be the ones that use technology to:
