Inspired by Gen Z moods and self-expression, Godrej Professional’s Vybe Collection is redefining the future of hair colour in India. In a candid conversation with Priyanka Parshurami, Shailesh Moolya, National Technical Head, Godrej Professional, shared the inspiration, trends, and vision behind the collection.
Hair colour is no longer just a beauty service; it has become a powerful form of self-expression. Recognising this shift in consumer behaviour, Godrej Professional recently unveiled its much-anticipated Vybe Collection in Mumbai, bringing together trend-led colour innovation, advanced technical education, and creative artistry on one platform. Designed around the philosophy, “Feel your shade, wear your vybe,” the collection celebrates individuality and the many moods that define today’s generation.
More than a colour launch, Vybe represents a cultural movement where hair colour becomes an extension of identity, personality, and emotional energy. Here’s the detailed interview of Shailesh Moolya, National Technical Head, Godrej Professional shedding light on the inspiration, trends, and vision behind the collection.
What was the core inspiration behind the Vybe Collection and the thought, “Feel your shade, wear your vybe”?
The Vybe Collection draws inspiration from Gen Z and their evolving sense of identity. Today’s consumers don’t just wear a look; they wear a feeling. We wanted to translate this cultural shift into hair colour. The philosophy “Feel your shade, wear your vybe” reflects how colour can become an expression of mood, personality, and self-confidence.
How does the collection reflect the individuality of today’s consumers?
Vybe is built around three distinct mood-led expressions. Soft Launch represents understated confidence and quiet luxury. Main Character is for individuals who naturally own the spotlight. Chaos Mode is bold, fearless, and unapologetically expressive. Together, these looks celebrate the fact that consumers today no longer define themselves by a single identity—they move fluidly between different versions of themselves.
Which colour trends and techniques do you expect to dominate salons through this collection?
We anticipate strong demand for Chaos Mode and Soft Launch. Chaos Mode’s cool-toned beige blondes align with the growing appetite for high-impact transformations, while Soft Launch taps into the popularity of quiet luxury and dimensional brunette shades. Both trends offer versatility and can be personalised according to individual client preferences.
Why is advanced colour education becoming increasingly important for salon professionals?
Education and upskilling are absolutely essential today. Clients arrive informed, trend-aware, and with very specific expectations. Stylists must move beyond technical execution and become consultants who can interpret trends and recommend personalised solutions. This requires strong technical knowledge, confidence, and continuous learning.
What made the Vybe hair show different from a conventional collection launch?
The Vybe hair show was designed as an immersive creative experience. A hair show allows artistry to be amplified beyond the salon chair. It becomes a platform where colour, texture, technique, and fashion come together to tell a story. For us, it was about transforming emotional moods and global inspirations into a visually powerful showcase.
How do you see Vybe influencing creativity among Indian hairstylists?
The collection strikes a balance between commercial wearability and artistic expression. While the looks are practical enough for salons to recreate, they also encourage stylists to experiment with colour placement, texture, and technique. We want professionals to feel confident adopting the core looks while also pushing their creative boundaries.
The launch of Vybe marks an important milestone for Godrej Professional as it continues to shape the future of hair colour in India. Supported by a nationwide initiative to upskill more than 1,000 salon professionals, the collection is not only introducing trend-forward shades but also empowering hairstylists with the knowledge and techniques needed to bring them to life. As beauty increasingly becomes a reflection of personal identity, Vybe demonstrates how hair colour can evolve from a service into a powerful statement of self-expression.
