International Mothers Day: Meet Inspiring Mothers of the Indian Beauty Industry

This International Mothers Day, we are celebrating pioneering women in the Indian hair and beauty industry. They have also paved the way for future generations.

The International Mothers Day is a day to celebrate the beauty, love, power and absolute magnificence of a Mother. The Indian beauty industry has many such glowing examples. Women have set milestones for the newer generations to follow. As a tribute to these stalwarts, on this International Mothers Day, we bring you trailblazing women. They have created a legacy not just for their own children but also for other passionate professionals in the industry.

1. Nalini Naegamvala and Natasha Naegamvala:

Our International Mothers Day list starts with Nalini Naegamvala. The dynamic lady, who laid the foundation of India’s salon industry together with her partner Yasmin Eranee, has been a true doyen for over four decades. Her daughter Natasha followed in her footsteps.

Their shared passion fuels a close bond evident in their weekly lunches and spontaneous adventures. While Nalini blazed the trail in hairdressing, Natasha’s attention to detail has carved a niche for the salon in intimate settings, a fact Nalini finds exceptional.

Nalini sees Natasha’s leadership as taking the business to unparalleled heights, yet she remains a guiding light and pillar of support. With decades of experience, Nalini imparts invaluable wisdom to her daughter, always with the best interests of both Natasha and the brand in mind.

2. Sunita Pawar and Mukul Pawar:

Sunita Pawar took her home business to a chain of salons model within a span of three decades. She befits the inspiration for an International Mother’s Day story.

Thanks to her, LookWell has evolved into a premier beauty salon chain, boasting 24 salons, a training academy and a clinic. With 400+ skilled staff, supported by a professional salon management and corporate team, LookWell epitomises dedication and foresight.

Recognising the significance of adaptability, Sunita and her son, Mukul, implemented strategies to thrive amidst industry changes. They emphasised building a strong team, introducing hierarchy and departmentalisation where the industry lacked organisation.

3. Dr Sangeeta Chauhan and Elisha Chauhan:

Dr Sangeeta Chauhan plays a pivotal role in shaping the beauty industry. As the President of AIHBA, she’s garnered numerous awards. Together with her daughter Elisha, they lead La Vivo International Cosmetic Solutions. Elisha, an engineer turned entrepreneur, expanded AIHBA’s reach to the US with the Hair and Beauty Tour.

This innovative platform blends learning and gamification, boasting over 10,500 students globally and 40 gold medals. Elisha’s advocacy includes setting national standards and empowering underprivileged women. Their success stems from mutual respect, blending experience, business acumen, and creativity. Dr Chauhan’s success story is an apt one to share on this International Mother’s Day!

4. Manjul Gupta and Swati & Sahil Gupta

Bodycraft Salons, founded by Manjul Gupta, began in 1997 with the sole purpose of skincare. Sahil Gupta and Swati Gupta, Manjul’s children, joined the venture, propelling it to become Bengaluru’s revered hub for beauty and wellness. Offering a comprehensive range of spa, salon, skincare, and clinic services, Bodycraft now boasts 12 outlets and clinics in Bengaluru and 3 in Mumbai, solidifying its reputation in the industry.

Manjul has passed on her qualities of diligence, perfection and perseverance to her children, making her an inspirational icon that we are proudly celebrating this International Women’s Day.

5. Latha Mohan and Vikram Mohan:

Latha Mohan, with her keen eye for aesthetics and passion for hairstyling, laid the foundation of Bounce Salon years ago. Her dedication and commitment to excellence quickly garnered a loyal clientele. However, it was the entry of her son Vikram into the business that propelled Bounce Salon to greater heights.

With Vikram’s innovative ideas and business acumen, Bounce Salon underwent a transformation, expanding its services and modernising its approach. Together, Latha and Vikram diversified Bounce Salon’s offerings, incorporating cutting-edge techniques and personalised experiences.

One of the key factors behind Bounce Salon’s success lies in its unwavering commitment to customer satisfaction. Latha and Vikram prioritise understanding their clients’ needs and preferences, ensuring each visit is a delightful experience.

These are just a few examples of the countless mother-daughter and mother-son duos who are shaping the Indian hair and beauty industry with their talent, innovation, and love for their craft. As we celebrate International Mothers Day, let us not only applaud their achievements but also recognise the invaluable role that maternal guidance and support play in nurturing talent and fostering success.
