Latest Nail Art Trends with Ujvari Krisztina and Shills

Nail art is one segment that has witnessed tremendous growth in India in recent years. With tools and procedures introduced aplenty, there has been a booming demand for creative nail arts across the globe and surely, in India. As the industry is flourishing and new looks and techniques flow in often, let’s learn more about the latest nail art trends.

Disha Pandya, Founder of Shills Professionals — the Nail Partner of Professional Beauty India, Kolkata — recently hosted Shill’s first international nail master class in Mumbai. With the renowned nail artist Ujvari Krisztina from Hungary, Shills opened doors to immersive learning and growth for participants. Professional Beauty India spoke to Krisztina to gauge the latest nail art trends. Here’s an excerpt from the conversation.

Can you share some insights into the latest trends in the nail industry, both globally and in India?

“I think the people now realise how important manicures are. They understand the importance of well-prepared and pretty-looking nails. As of now, the nails are not as decorated as many years ago. People are inclined towards simple yet perfect-looking nails.

On the other hand, one trending thing is ‘extra nails.’ These are basically very long nails and feature many effects, like wavy prints and mosaics. This is very special now and people are going crazy about it.”

How does the nail industry growth look in the next coming 5 to 10 years?

“It largely depends on the location in question. For instance, in Europe the market is saturated. I think it’s not growing anymore as we have reached the peak. However, in India, it is still booming. As Disha Pandya also mentioned. With the rampant growth of social media, the industry is still booming and there’s a lot of scope for it in the coming years.”

With the rise of social media and online platforms, how do you think the digital presence and marketing strategies have influenced the nail industry?

“If you start your own business now, you have to show everything on social media. You need to be very active to promote it. You need to make videos, provide insights, talk to your customers, and show your face. You ought to be there for viewers. It’s helping businesses grow but now, the competition is also tough.15 years ago when I started – one photo was enough. Now, it’s not enough because viewers value authenticity and do not believe easily, so you have to prove your worth.”

Your advice for aspiring nail artists looking to establish themselves in this field?

“If you start your career now, it must be out of passion. If not, you are just a worker. After a while, you can’t step forward. You will block yourself because, after a while, you will lose interest.

A nail trend to watch out for in 2024?

Since simpler nails are doing great, different colours will be a huge hit, especially the ‘colour of the year’, peach.
