From redefined Korean-inspired cuts to accessible digital education, VC Academy bridges artistry and learning, empowering hairstylists with creativity, confidence, and skills to shape the future of India’s beauty industry. Let’s learn more as Celebrity Hair Artist – Vipul Chudasama, Founder & Educator – VC Academy, VC Online shines a light on these developments in a conversation with Vidhi Arya from Professional Beauty India.
A new chapter unfolds for Vipul Chudasama with the launch of the MEO-RI Collection and the VC Academy’s move online. While MEO-RI brings Korean-inspired hair artistry reimagined for India — through razor cuts, barcode lights, and wearable colour stories — the Academy’s digital leap promises to democratise professional hair education. Together, they mark a powerful shift: transforming how hairstylists create, learn, and grow. From salon floors to digital classrooms, VC continues to shape the future of beauty with innovation and accessibility.
What was the core inspiration or story that sparked the MEO-RI collection? What drew you to Korean hair trends?
“A new era of hair begins with The ‘MEO-RI’ Collection. Inspired by our fascination with Korean hair trends, the collection reflects how simplicity can coexist with a strong sense of identity. In Korean, ‘Meo-ri’ means hair, but it also signifies self-expression. What captivated us was the way Korean styling celebrates natural texture while staying fresh, innovative, and fashion-forward. With MEO-RI, we set out to capture that essence and reimagine it into looks that embody individuality, yet remain wearable and versatile for clients in India.
The makeup direction was crafted to seamlessly complement the hair looks — favouring glossy finishes that bring out luminosity, with the flexibility to go matte when a smoother, more polished texture was needed. Contouring stayed soft and natural, leaning towards bronzing with tones of soft brown and brown-pink for subtle definition. Freckles were introduced as an optional detail, adding a youthful, playful touch without overwhelming the look. Together, the hair and makeup tell a story that is modern, expressive, and unmistakably true to the MEO-RI spirit.”
What new cutting or colouring techniques did you and your team use while working on this collection? Were there any particular tools or products that proved essential?
“This collection is built around two core elements.
First — advanced haircutting techniques using Razor (Razor Cuts), creating precision and movement in every look.
Second — the breakthrough trend of BARCODE Lights, an innovative weaving method for hair coloring developed by Vipul Chudasama & team. Inspired by the lines of a product barcode, this technique creates a dimensional effect. It blends the softness of balayage with the structure of classic highlights. The result is a truly unique and modern approach to hair color. We reimagined iconic Korean cuts — like the Hush Cut, Hime Cut, Wolf Cut, Shag, K-Bob, and Two-Block style — through our own VC lens to make them modern, wearable, and relevant for Indian clients.
- HUST Cut – Built on expert layering techniques and enhanced with soft ash blonde tones, giving it a cool, luminous finish.
- HIME Cut – Built on strong line techniques, enhanced with copper and gold tones for a radiant warm finish.
- SHAG Cut – Created with layered techniques and paired with vibrant red tones for boldness and energy.
- WOLF Cut – Soft layering combined with ash-brown shades for a chic, versatile effect.
- K-Bob – Used graduation and subtle layering, enriched with matte and ash-brown tones plus barcode highlights for depth.
- Two-Block Cut – Designed with line techniques and a square silhouette, colored with matte browns and ash placements, highlighted at the front with a softer take on the “money piece” effect.
Across all looks, we kept consistency in tone families while experimenting with placement. Techniques like beveling, texturising, and soft layering ensured movement, adaptability, and flow — allowing each look to feel impactful yet practical.”
How did you adapt the look to suit Indian tastes? Do you see the MEO-RI Collection influencing the wider Indian salon industry or inspiring hairstylists here?
“We softened structures, adjusted lengths, and customised colour placements to flatter Indian face shapes, hair textures, and lifestyles. Instead of extreme contrasts, we leaned into warm browns, chocolates, coppers, and ash tones — making them trendy yet wearable.
This balance of global inspiration and local adaptability is what makes MEO-RI unique. We believe it will encourage hairstylists in India to experiment more with Korean aesthetics while tailoring them for our culture, raising the bar for creativity and personalisation across the salon industry.”
How did you balance staying authentic to Korean aesthetics while adding your own VC signature style?
“We stayed true to the essence of Korean aesthetics — the clean lines, soft layering, and youthful silhouettes — while blending in our own VC philosophy of adaptability and wearability. Korean styles often emphasise sharp precision, but we reinterpreted them with subtler transitions, customised layering, and colour placements that feel effortless yet impactful.
Our VC signature lies in making editorial looks practical for everyday clients—so while the cuts carry authentic Korean structure, the finish, texture, and colour stories reflect our own creative twist, ensuring they’re both fashion-forward and salon-friendly.”
