Pooja Garg receiving the recognition by Londonbook of World Records

Cosmetologist and Skincare Coach, Pooja Garg was recently recognised by the London Book of World Records with a Certificate of Excellence. In a candid conversation with Vidhi Arya from Professional Beauty India, Pooja Garg throws light on how her journey took shape over her expansive career of more than two decades.

Please tell us about the recognition from the London Book of World Records

Just as the Guinness Book of World Records documents and recognises exceptional achievements and records worldwide, London Book of World Records is a global platform that recognises people who have made a substantial contribution in the domains of Leadership, Politics, Entertainment, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Art & Culture, Science, Social work, and many more.

This recognition symbolises over 20 years of my extensive experience, dedication, hard work in the beauty, skincare, and salon industry, and unwavering commitment. It’s a testament to the relentless pursuit of excellence in the skincare industry.

How has your journey in the beauty industry been so far?

I started as a beautician and soon after two months, I changed my field to sales in the beauty industry. I was one of the very few women in frontline sales. So, it wasn’t exactly easy but all my hard work and perseverance over the years has truly paid off. Within three years, I started doing shows. As I was just 21, people didn’t take me very seriously but my knowledge paved the way to my success, is what I believe.

Now, I have done over a thousand shows in all different arenas of the beauty industry – be it in skin, nails, hair, or makeup. A cosmetologist and skincare coach by profession, I am also the founder of brands ‘Pediclam’ and ‘IsBeautiful’, where we create a professional range of products for salons. The product range includes unique concepts like foot facials, face facials, and intimate facials.

How important do you think education is in this field?

Very very important! As a cosmetologist, I believe that being well aware of the ingredients the beauty industry often works with is imperative. Somewhere, in-depth knowledge is missing. For instance, while most people would know what glycolic acid is, they wouldn’t know where it comes from, how it is made, or with which other actives it can be safely paired.

In this industry, we can not take hair and skin lightly. Training should be more ingredient-specific than just product-specific. When we start learning about ingredients, it gives us the scope to understand the usage and benefits of several products just by reading the ingredient list.

What are your suggestions to those starting as entrepreneurs in the beauty industry?

If you aim to join this industry because it is lucrative, don’t join it. However, if you truly see beauty as a passion you must join the industry. Beauty is a passion, you need to live it, you need to feel it, and only then will you be truly successful.

I always say beauty is not just my profession, it really is my passion. It might sound cliché but when your profession stems out of your passion, magic happens!
