The launch edition of the Schwarzkopf Professional The Pro Hair Kollektiv was moderated by Sandhya Chipalkatti, Editor-in-Chief, StyleSpeak. It featured esteemed panelists: Spoorthy Shetty, CEO & Director, BBlunt; Vikram Bhatt, Co-Founder and Director – Growth & Strategy, Enrich; Vaishakhi Haria, Founder, Splash Salons, Co-founder, Very V Salon, and Educator & HAK Meister for Schwarzkopf Professional; and Samir Srivastav, CEO, Looks Salons.
Speaking on the occasion, Kartik Kaushik, Country Head, Henkel Consumer Brands – India & South Asia, said, “At Schwarzkopf Professional, we believe in continuously pushing the boundaries of hairdressing by fostering innovation, expertise, and collaboration. The Pro Hair Kollektiv serves as a dynamic platform to spark dialogue, share knowledge, and inspire the next wave of industry pioneers.”
He further added, “As consumer expectations evolve, it is crucial for professionals to stay ahead with the right tools, education, and insights. Through initiatives like these, we are committed to strengthening the hairdressing community, empowering stylists, and setting new benchmarks in the industry.”
The panel discussion commenced with Sandhya Chipalkatti addressing the need for collaboration between salon owners, artists, brands and educators to drive true evolution in the hairdressing industry. She emphasised, “Standardising education across the board is not just a goal but a necessity. It requires a collective commitment from all stakeholders to nurture talent, set industry benchmarks, and elevate professional standards.”
Echoing this sentiment, Vikram Bhatt also stated, “Education is the fundamental pillar of the beauty business. It fosters skill development and creativity while ensuring high industry standards. When we train a team member, it’s not just about teaching techniques; it’s about instilling confidence, professionalism, and self-esteem. Investing in education creates empowered professionals, leads to better salons, and enhances the client experience. This investment is what drives transformation in the industry.”
Vaishakhi Haria further reinforced the significance of education, stating, “Education is directly proportional to our code of ethics. A well-trained stylist won’t just chase sales targets but will prioritise doing the right thing for their clients. That’s the difference education makes in this industry.”
Samir Srivastav highlighted the link between expertise and premium pricing. He stated, “If you want to command premium pricing in this industry, expertise is the key. And expertise only comes from years of training, not shortcuts. We need to institutionalise education, not treat talent as a commodity.”
Spoorthy Shetty further remarked, “Do not only focus on hiring top talent. You don’t just need racehorses. Hire artists with a good attitude, who keep learning, improving, and mentoring the next generation.” She further posed a critical question: “Do we farm and nurture talent, or do we simply hunt for it? True standardisation comes when brands commit to continuous learning as a culture, rather than viewing it as a cost.”
In addition to these insights, the two-hour-long panel also addressed several crucial issues. These included standardisation in hair and beauty education and government involvement in regulation. Another important topic was the need for a strong induction process across salons. The panel also discussed the importance of recruiting and nurturing the right talent.
Key takeaways from the panel discussion:
Standardisation in hairdressing education is crucial:
The industry must move away from informal learning and establish structured education models to elevate skills and ensure consistent service quality across salons.
Expertise, not just talent, commands value:
Long-term success in the hairdressing industry depends on continuous education and training. It cannot rely solely on innate talent or experience.
Collaboration is the future of the industry:
Salons, brands and educators must work together to create an ecosystem that nurtures talent as well as drives industry-wide growth.
Schwarzkopf Professional’s Pro Hair Kollektiv marks a significant step toward transforming the hairdressing industry through education, collaboration and innovation. By fostering these crucial conversations, the initiative will shape the future of the industry as well as empower professionals for sustained success.
