Holi is right around the corner and with all the splash of colour in the air, we all surely enjoy the festival. But our hair and skin? Not so much. While we prepare for the fun festivities, let’s not forget that it’s our hair and skin that need real preparation. In a conversation with Vidhi Arya from Professional Beauty India, Dr Madhuri Agarwal, Founder & Medical Director of Yavana Aesthetics brings you some essential pre-Holi skin and hair care tips.
Holi, at the cusp of winter, falls during a time when our hair and skin are already dry and lack moisture. At such time, it becomes imperative that we pay extra attention towards them both and ensure that we provide extra TLC to minimise the negative impact of colour and chemicals and reduce the extent of damage. Here are a few pre-holi skin and hair care tips you must consider this year.
Pre-Holi Skincare Tips
Here are a few skincare tips by Dr Madhuri Agarwal – Founder & Medical Director – Yavana Aesthetics:
– A few days before Holi, start moisturising the exposed areas like the face, nape of the neck, arms and legs at least 3-4 times a day.
– Wear clothes which cover the maximum surface of your body such as full sleeves tops and full pants. Light, cotton clothes are recommended for skin protection.
– On the day you set out to play Holi, apply the moisturiser all over the body 30-45 minutes before you step out so it is well absorbed by the skin. It is also easier to remove the post-Holi colours from a well-moisturised skin than a dry one.
– Sunscreen is a must even when you go out to play Holi. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen on all the exposed areas and avoid makeup if possible.
– Paint your nails in bright, dark colours so that your nails and cuticles are well-protected.
– I generally advise against skin treatments of any kind such as peels, lasers, etc prior to Holi. This helps to avoid any adverse reactions. However, certain treatments like jet facials and Derma fillers like Restylane Vital or Juvederm are popular and safe before Holi. These revive, hydrate and refurbish the skin and give the much-needed festival glow.
Pre-Holi Haircare Tips
To ensure that your hair remains healthy and gets the minimal of the wrath in chemical colours, Dr Agarwal suggests the following:
– Coconut oil is a good source of hydration and nourishment for hair. Apply coconut hair to your scalp and hair before stepping out for Holi fun.
– Avoid too many hair treatments like straightening, highlights and blonde hair colours before Holi. It will dry the hair and make it more prone to hair damage.
– Tie up your hair instead of leaving it loose to reduce its exposure to colours and damage. Adding a bandana or scarf to hair ups the style quotient and also gives additional hair protection.
With these easy yet effective tips up your sleeve, double the fun of Holi and cut down on all the stress around your skin and hair health!
