Undercuts For Women: Empowering Elegance

Undercuts for women

In the world of hairstyling, women are increasingly opting for bold and unconventional choices to express their individuality. One such avant-garde trend is the undercuts for women. Breaking free from traditional norms, the undercut challenges societal expectations, offering a fresh take on confidence and self-expression. In a candid conversation with Vidhi Arya, hairstylist Zingranwon Shatsang tells us all we need to know about an undercut.

This edgy hairstyle involves shaving or closely cropping one side or the nape of the neck while leaving the rest of the hair longer. This creates a striking contrast that exudes both femininity and rebellion. From the fashion-forward to the free-spirited, this haircut empowers all women to embrace their unique style. Let’s delve deeper.

What are the popular variants of undercuts for women?

Mostly females go for the undercut at the back. Most of them choose something with a design. Ladies also come in for sides, but that’s comparatively rare.

What should be kept in mind while getting an undercut?

Usually, I tell people that they need to be okay with a certain part of the hair gone. For first-timers, I tell them not to go for the sides. Just in case they get done with the thrill of it, hair will still take some time to grow back. That’s also the reason why most people opt for the back. If someone is planning to do it as a one-off thing, then it’s better to get a design at the back. Further, if someone is planning to keep the undercut for longer, it makes more sense just to do a fade undercut without doing any design. It grows out much better. People who are very conscious of their looks, thin hair, or maintenance, then they should not go for an undercut.

How can undercuts for women be styled?

It depends! If you want to expose the undercut at the back, you’ll have to tie it up in a ponytail or a bun.

For the sides, it becomes pretty obvious. We’ve been seeing a lot of mullets happening now. So people are coming and asking for mullets with a proper undercut on the side. In that case, you don’t even have to do anything. It’s just exposed the whole time. But if you have like an undercut on the side, underneath your lengths, then you can flick it to a side with a side parting.

Undercuts for women are seemingly gutsy, do you feel it’s here to stay?

I think undercut for women is going to be there for a while. It was created to remove extra weight from people’s hair who have too much volume. Now, it has become very trendy because of the designs and the different ways of colouring it that more and more people are doing it. I don’t think it’s going to go out of vogue soon because it is something a lot of people do to feel liberated.

Any quick tips for ladies who have an undercut?

Though it looks nice, it needs maintenance. The hair will grow out, so designer undercuts will not be visible in two weeks. Then you have to go back and get it trimmed and redesigned again. Or you can let it grow out like most people do and then schedule your next undercut appointment whenever you want to.
