Understanding Movember: Embrace the ‘Mo’

Gentlemen, embrace the ‘mo’

As the month of November sets in, so does the season of falling leaves. This season also brings with it sprouting moustaches and beards in support of a bigger cause in an annual event called Movember. Coming from the fusion of “moustache” and “November,” this event aims to raise awareness for men’s mental health issues and, also about prostate cancer, and testicular cancer. Vidhi Arya from Professional Beauty India shares what Movember is all about and how you can participate.

Originating from Australia in 2003, Movember started as a light-hearted challenge between a few friends to grow moustaches in November. The intent was to spark conversations and raise funds for men’s mental and physical health. Over the years, the movement has evolved as a global phenomenon where people grow their moustache and raise awareness for the aforementioned issues.

The Rules of Movember

The ground rule of Movember is pretty simple: start the month with a clean-shaven face and grow a moustache throughout November. This is done to raise awareness about men’s health. Participants are encouraged to use their facial hair as conversation starters to discuss men’s health issues and encourage others to contribute to the cause.

Grooming Tips for the Month

Growing a moustache for a good cause doesn’t mean you need to let it grow wild. Grooming and maintaining your moustache are essential to make it not only a statement but also a neat and stylish one at that. Here’s how to easily ace it:

Choose Your Style: Be it a classic ‘Tom Selleck’, a modern ‘Chevron’, or a trendy ‘Handlebar,’ choose a moustache style that complements your face and personal style.

Regular Trimming: Invest in a good quality trimmer or scissors to neatly trim any extra strays. You can also visit a barber regularly to maintain the shape and length of your moustache. This helps to avoid an unkempt look and ensures a more polished appearance.

Cleaning and Hygiene: Regularly wash and condition your moustache. Just as you care for the hair on your head, it also deserves attention. Use specialised shampoos and conditioners to keep it clean and soft.

Precision Shaving: Define the borders and edges of your moustache to keep a clean and intentional look. Use precision razors or trimmers for accuracy.

Patience and Care: Not all moustaches grow at the same pace. Be patient with the growth process and resist the temptation to trim it too early. Additionally, nourish it with beard oil or balm to keep it healthy and manageable.

Spreading Awareness

The true essence of Movember lies in getting the conversations going and spreading awareness. Use your newly grown moustache as a conversation starter. Further, talk about men’s health issues, encourage regular check-ups, and address the long-standing stigma around mental health.

So, as November has rolled in, you can still set your razors aside, and embrace the ‘Mo,. Go ahead and be a part of a global initiative that strives to improve men’s health across the globe. Remember, your ‘Mo’ can be a symbol of solidarity and support for a healthier future for men everywhere.
