Gurpreet Seble, Founder of ‘Nail Spa by Gurpreet,’ talks about the evolution of the Indian nail segment and the way forward.
Gurpreet Seble is the International Educator & Nail Expert who has pioneered in the artificial nail industry in India. Founder of Nail Spa by Gurpreet (NSG), Seble is known for her technical know-how and leadership skills. She currently has four academies — one each in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune. At the academies, she offers a comprehensive portfolio of courses for the industry professionals.
Seble has also the credit of writing the National Standards for Nail Education in India, under Beauty & Wellness Sector Skill Council (NSDC & Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship).
She talks to Professional Beauty India on the current scenario of the Indian nail industry and the important aspects of starting a nail salon.
What are your thoughts on the nail industry in India?
When I introduced the artificial nail industry in India 15 years ago, there was zero awareness about nail services here. Today, we are riding the wave of nail art, but we still have a long way to go in terms of international standards and popularity.
Fortunately, nails have become front and centre in our lives and women are paying attention to well-groomed hands and toes.
What is the most essential part of setting up a nail bar?
Education! Technicians must be experienced and have an international education from a reputed nail academy trained under internationally qualified trainers. This is is most important as the make or break of a nail spa depends on the qualifications of their technicians.
What are the top trends in nails in terms of nail arts and colours?
Nail trends come and go, as the season changes! Today’s fashionista desires high flying colours like nudes and pastels to coordinate their lip shades or the all-time party look with colours like vamp and burgundy. The palette has over 200 options, so there’s something for everyone.
There’s a sea of embellishments that have taken over the nail fashion industry. Swarovski, Mylars, Holographic, Chrome, Laser Chrome, Glitters, Galaxy Mylars screaming with bling, Ice Mylars with the embedded lights, nail jewelry and so much more. The list is never ending.
What do you have to say about Swarovski nail art ? How is it picking up in the season, since its all about bridal and party season?
Swarovski crystals are the rage. Women love jewels on their nails. The high shine emitted by these gems is very desirable on hands and toes.
These beautiful gems can be used in every colour to highlight the nails with or without colour base. It’s an evergreen trend for times to come!
