Amazon to open hi-tech salon in London

Tech giant Amazon has announced the launch of a hi-tech hair salon in London, which will offer clients the chance to see how certain styles will look on them before they actually take the plunge.

The household name Amazon will soon open the Amazon Salon in Spitalfields, east London. This salon will showcase hi-tech technology that will offer clients the chance to look into special mirrors and be able to see how they would look with different hair colours that they might fancy, beforehand. Clients will not only be able to experiment with different, virtual looks but also be able to browse through magazines that are loaded on tablets at their individual “styling station”. The actual job of giving the haircuts and highlights will be executed by professionals at the salon, which will be managed by Neville Hair Beauty, an independent salon.

The tech in the salon will be tested by Amazon staff before it opens up to the public. Amazon has not yet released a price list or menu, but the Amazon Salon will offer a “full range of hairdressing services”. These services will include colours, highlights, treatments and braids. Currently being the only one, the Amazon Salon in London will be an “experiential venue” to showcase new products and technology and offer clients the chance to point at a product on display and view information about the ingredients, and brand videos, on the accompanying screen. Naturally, clients will also be able to buy shampoos and styling aids for home delivery by simply scanning a barcode with their phone.

This move comes after Amazon launched a professional beauty section on its website, selling 10,000 products ranging from clippers to curlers and hair dryers, especially aimed at small businesses which were only recently allowed to reopen. As reported, John Boumphrey, Amazon’s UK manager, said that the hair salon had been designed so that customers could experience the “best technology, haircare products and stylists in the industry”.
