Beauty and Technology: A Potent Combination

Amalgamation of beauty and technology is the future.

As technology continues to evolve across all sectors, the beauty industry is reaping benefits from it too. Recent developments in artificial intelligence (AR) and virtual reality (VR) are transforming the beauty sector drastically. Here’s what you should know about the beauty tech of tomorrow.

The Indian beauty industry is worth billions and shall continue the upward trajectory in the future. To keep up with the latest trends, beauty brands are hopping on the technology bandwagon to gain traction and recognition. Tata Cliq Palette came into the market roaring with the latest advancements, while Unilever is developing beauty technology of the future.

Here’s a list of existing technologies that are making waves in the Indian beauty industry:

Smart mirrors

Mirror mirror on the wall, who has the healthiest skin of them all?

That’s right! Smart mirrors tell the viewers exactly how healthy their skin is. It analyses their skin for its type, redness, rashes, dryness, puffy eyes, wrinkles and everything in between. Based on this analysis, a smart mirror generates a skin health report. It also provides personalised suggestions based on skin score and skin type.

Acne testers

Acne troubles are prevalent in all ages. But now, technology enables rapid analysis of a selfie for all acne-related problems. It can even suggest possible solutions and product use based on the gathered information.

Automated hair analysis

Near-field communication (NFC) chips are embedded in our phones to exchange small bits of data. Now this technology is used to communicate hair health to an automated device through infrared light sensors. It evaluates hair quality, dampness, colour and so on. Based on this data, it becomes easy to choose the right products.

Virtual make-up studios

Making online purchases has become simple with this technology. Its artificial reality (AR) features allow the customers to try on virtual makeup with easy changing filters. It is as easy as it gets. Simply open a camera, give access to the AR software and try on as much makeup from as many brands as you wish. One might say it is an advanced version of Instagram or TikTok filters.

Robot mani

Robots are now giving a manicure in 10 minutes at the New York airport. How long will it be before there are robot manicure kiosks everywhere, just like the ATM?

AI eyelash extensions

After a robot manicure, a robotic eyelash extension machine might make its presence known soon. While it is not yet launched, there is a buzz of excitement already in the air about this technology.
