Experts extoll the Salon India: Third edition

Hair experts who participated at the third edition of Salon India speak about innovation, creativity and education.

Salon India got a great start at the two-day action-packed schedule of Professional Beauty Mumbai. Hosted on October 1-2, 2018 at Bombay Convention Centre, the event celebrated the best in hairdressing. There were opportunities from learning to networking and to witness live hairdressing shows by industry stalwarts.

Onstage performances

The show had a stellar line-up of hair experts from across the globe. Providing in-depth inspiration were Nayana Karunaratne, Chairperson, Salon Nayana Chain of Salons and SN Academies in Sri Lanka & India; Michel Baltazar, Creative Director Training & Education, Jean-Claude Biguine India; Seema V Jerajani of SVJ Academy; Julia Siira of Streax Professional; and Savio John Pereira, Owner, Savio John Pereira Salons, amongst others. The industry gurus presented an array of hairstyles and looks as per the season’s trends.

Asked about his theme, Michel, shared, I wanted to give my audience a creative take on what I believe to be the perfect blend of Rock N Roll with a touch of Parisian romance. I presented four distinct looks –  each favouring the sharpness of avant garde rock layered with French elegance inspired from the Paris 2018 Autumn/Winter collection. From short bobs to long waves, the looks were carefully constructed to refuel the imagination with a more artistic perspective, helping the audience take their work to higher planes of innovation.”

While highlighting the most important takeaway of his mind-blowing session, Michel, shared, “It was modern creativity.” Keeping in line with the theme ‘Rockmantic’, he reinvented everyday hairstyles with a more urban approach, to give it a fresher perspective. “I wanted my audience to understand how a simple look can be bolstered the French way, using some useful tips and techniques that they can incorporate in their routine.”

Audience’s delight

Salon India delivered something for everyone – be it hair colour trends, bridal styles, or men’s styling. Nayana created avant garde bridal looks, which can be easily adapted in salons. She shared, “We showcased a host of modern, long hairstyles using IHB teaching methods. A classic French pleat, and bridal hairstyles and makeup of the current trend was also presented on Salon India’s stage. For men’s, it was about the tapered hair cuts.”

Seema V Jerajani presented four editorial hairstyles inspired from her book ‘Art of Indian Coiffures — a book on Indian hairstyling’. The show began with Seema presenting four looks – one created backstage and three on stage. The hair show concluded with a ramp walk with the models showcasing the hair and make-up looks wearing exquisite bridal wear and jewelry.

“This was my third year performing at Salon India and the response from the audience was amazing. It is always a pleasure performing on stage with a responsive audience and the energy of the place was great! I hope the audience found the content educational and something that will help them create new looks for their clients and enhance their skills,” concluded Seema.

The hair extravaganza wrapped up with presenting the expressive world of hairstyling to the fore. Stay tuned for the next edition of Salon India!
