Glamming Up The Modern Indian Bride

Neha Chande Joshi, Director and Educator, Indian school of Beauty, talks about the beauty trends that are just right for the modern Indian bride. What is trending in bridal make-up this season? Minimal make-up is the current trend, I’m in love with the ‘less is more’ concept. The beautiful dewy glass skin is a superhit. For the eyes, I love the new trend of embellishments. It’s absolutely gorgeous how rhinestones or pearls are used to add drama to the look. Place them strategically and you are all set. Try it out! Tell us in detail about the colour palette that you think will rule the bridal fashion for eyes and lips. The traditional Indian bridal make-up was ruled by gold and reds. So, gold eyelids and bright red lips are to stay forever, accompanied by dewy skin. My personal favourites go beyond red or gold. I absolutely love experimenting and here are my top make-up picks for brides: - Monochromatic - Romantic pink - Copper eyes with red lips - Indian kohl eyes with glossy lips - Coloured eyeliners - Halo smokey eyes with muted lips For the lips, are we likely to see more matte or gloss? Any reason why? For sure more of gloss, the wet looks are trending. From sun kissed make-up to glass skin, I’m seeing that gorgeous glaze everywhere. Which techniques are in vogue for eye make-up? The stunning metallic eyeshadows, embellishments like rhinestones incorporated with eye make-up, neon looks and the cat eye wings are in vogue for eyes. Which contouring techniques are in? Well blended contouring is the new trend. Technically we call it underpainting; where the contouring and concealing is done first and later on we paint the foundation, making it look much more natural. The sharp lines are not worked upon anymore. A lot of clients prefer bronzing over contouring as they want very natural shadows on their face, wanting to look like themselves. How to decide upon the best type of foundation (liquid, mousse, creme, etc) for your bridal client? Type of foundation is based on the client’s skin type and condition. Hence, I always recommend all my students to do a thorough skin consultation before. Here is a quick suggestion: Dry skin - Creams Matured and combination skin - Liquids Oily skin - Mousses (it can be used on all skin types as well, it is a self-setting product, making it suitable for personal use more than professional) Which trending TikTok foundation technique are you likely to use for your bridal clients? Well, TikTok provokes me to try weird things at times - one of them was application of foundation using a spatula. That worked like magic! Such thin, even and clean application. It’s like your own skin. However, I like working in my comfort zone, so brushes and wedges are my forever partners. Tips on keeping your bridal clients happy. - Be warm and kind to your brides. Remember your job is not only applying make-up, but customer contentment as well. - Professional and positive communication skills. - Dress your best. Your personal grooming has to be top notch. - Punctuality, hygiene and perfection are my top three priorities in a professional make-up artist. - Recommend a customised skincare consultation to the bride, for maintaining her skin. - Have a post service follow-up as well. This builds a long-term client relationship.
