MET Institute and ABC Academy of Beauty Launch Diploma in SFX & Prosthetic Makeup

MET Institute and ABC Academy of Beauty, Powered by Kryolan, have launched a Diploma in SFX & Prosthetic Makeup at the MET campus in Mumbai on 8 October 2026. The programme aims to bridge the gap between media education and the specialised skills required for film, television and digital entertainment productions.

The collaboration introduces aspiring professionals to the art and science of special effects (SFX) and prosthetic makeup, equipping them with practical techniques to create realistic characters, cinematic transformations and visual effects.

Bringing Cinematic Characters to Life

From ageing and character transformations to realistic wounds, burns and creature effects, SFX and prosthetic makeup play an important role in modern visual storytelling. These techniques require a combination of artistic ability, technical knowledge and hands-on training.

The launch event brought together representatives from the education, beauty and entertainment industries, including MET Trustee Pankaj Bhujbal, Vishakha Bhujbal, Dr Priya Nair, actor Prammod Sanghi, stunt and car drifting educator Manmohan Thorat, ABC CEO Allen John, and filmmaker and media educator Dr Mukesh Sharma.

The event featured live demonstrations and interactive sessions, offering attendees an opportunity to explore the techniques behind special effects and prosthetic makeup.

What Will the Diploma Cover?

The programme introduces students to the processes involved in creating realistic on-screen transformations. Key areas of learning include:

  • Life casting and sculpting
  • Mould making
  • Silicone and latex work
  • Prosthetic application
  • Bald-cap techniques
  • Hair punching
  • Injury simulation
  • Character creation

Through practical learning and demonstrations, students will gain exposure to the creative and technical processes involved in character development and visual storytelling.

Exploring Careers in Film and Entertainment

The diploma also aims to familiarise learners with specialised roles within film makeup departments. Potential career pathways include SFX makeup artist, prosthetic artist, character makeup artist and assistant roles in film and entertainment productions.

MET Institute brings its experience in media, mass communication and filmmaking education to the partnership, while ABC Academy of Beauty contributes its expertise in professional makeup, SFX and prosthetics, supported by Kryolan’s international professional makeup legacy.

By combining academic learning with practical skill development, the collaboration seeks to expand career-oriented makeup education beyond conventional beauty and bridal makeup, highlighting the growing creative possibilities of SFX and prosthetic artistry in entertainment.
