Modern Barber Challenge Day 2: Fades, Scissors & Hair Tattoo

The Modern Barber Challenge at Professional Beauty India Mumbai 2026 closed out the competition on Day 2. Barbers returned to the arena for a final round of speed, precision, and creative technique. Across two rounds of Express Fade, a Creative Scissors category, and Hair Tattoo, the day tested a different mix of skills to the categories seen on Day 1, with a strong emphasis on control, structure, and design.

From fast-paced fading to traditional scissor-only craftsmanship and intricate design work, Day 2 rounded off the Modern Barber Challenge. The programme was built around precision, artistry, and technical range.

Express Fade

The day opened with the first of two Express Fade rounds, a 20-minute challenge focused on speed and precision. As on Day 1, competitors had to start the fade from skin or zero. The emphasis stayed firmly on clean blending and sharp execution under time pressure.

Prathamesh, Dodo, Tom, and JJ judged the category, assessing both rounds of the challenge across the morning.

A second Express Fade round followed shortly after. This gave a fresh set of competitors the same 20-minute window to demonstrate their fading skills, keeping the energy and intensity high through the late morning.

Creative Scissors

The competition then shifted into Creative Scissors, a 45-minute challenge built entirely around scissor work. Clippers were not permitted. Instead, competitors used scissors and texturising or feather razors to shape their look, while trimmers were allowed only for clean-up.

The category placed the emphasis firmly on scissor skills, structure, and traditional barbering technique. Tom, JJ, Jay, and Wajid judged the round, testing a more classical, craftsmanship-led side of modern barbering.

Hair Tattoo

Day 2 closed with Hair Tattoo, a 45-minute design-focused challenge that brought a strong creative and artistic dimension to the competition. Competitors had to create intricate, precise designs, shifting the day’s focus from cutting technique to detailed pattern work and visual creativity.

Milan, Jay, Vinu, and Wazid judged the category, bringing their expertise to the final barbering challenge of the show.

A Strong Finish for Modern Barbering

Across Express Fade, Creative Scissors, and Hair Tattoo, Day 2 highlighted a different set of barbering strengths to those seen on Day 1, from speed and blending to scissor craftsmanship and creative design work.

VGR supported the Modern Barber Challenge throughout as Gifting Partner, alongside Appronics by ADS as Supporting Partner and Gatsby as Styling Partner.

Two rounds of Express Fade, Creative Scissors, and Hair Tattoo brought the competition to a close. Altogether, Day 2 of the Modern Barber Challenge at PBI Mumbai 2026 celebrated the precision, versatility, and artistry that define modern barbering, closing the competition on a high note.
