National Salon Day, bringing the industry together with pride

August 11 marks the National Salon Day in India. Celebrated every year with pomp and fair, this day is a poignant reminder of the strength and unity that binds the industry together in good and bad times. As we celebrate this day with heartfelt pride, let’s delve into the history of how this day came to be.

The industry has been celebrating National Salon Day since August 11, 2021 with immense pride and joy. It’s a day that marks the unity with which the industry and its stakeholders stand in good times and in times of crisis, as well.

The inception of this day can be traced back to a journey that started on June 14, 2020. On this day, the Save Salon India WhatsApp group was established with the goal of staying united during the testing times of COVID-19. This group was a platform where everyone came together to share their thoughts and support each other. The common feeling of distress yet the common zeal to rise above all difficulties of COVID-19 brought together more than 100 associations across India under one roof.

The atrocities of the pandemic continued to haunt hairdressers, barbers, beauty owners, makeup artists, and many more. As a result of which, some also took unfortunate and drastic steps. As troublesome situations arose for all, in the wake of global lockdowns, Save Salon India and Hair & Beauty Federation decided to lead from the front. Under their guidance, on July 22, 2020, the industry sent demand letters with 13 demands to the Prime Minister. Members of India’s hair, beauty, nail, spa, and cosmetics industries came together. They addressed over two lakh e-mails and tweets to the Indian PM. The emails described and detailed the various problems the stakeholders faced during the pandemic.

Another milestone in the journey traversed during COVID-19 was the launch of ‘Corona Mukt Bharat’. The campaign came to life as an online meeting under the leadership of BWSSC. The campaign aimed to provide nationwide training to maintain hygiene and health during the pandemic.

Furthermore, efforts were underway to remove stringent restrictions like lockdown. Rural and urban associations played an important role in distributing masks, rations, and medicines and fulfilling basic needs. Additionally, at the national level, the ‘Beautiful Heart Fund’ launched a campaign to provide financial and professional help.

The spirit of cooperation during the hard struggle during COVID-19 united the whole industry like never before. Save Salon India and Hair & Beauty Federation India decided to celebrate National Salon Day on 11 August 2021.

Now, the Hair & Beauty Federation urges all to celebrate this day as a day of unity and celebration. “Celebrate this day by decorating the salon, training, picnic, party, business discussion, surprising the customer, competition, and making special plans for the business. You are requested to disseminate the news of the program organised in social media, print media and electronic media. All the salons, spas, academies, nail, beauty parlours and cosmetic industry members of the country should celebrate National Salon Day with pride and pomp.” says Hair and Beauty Federation, India.
