National Salon Day brings the industry together with zeal and joy

India celebrates August 11 as the National Salon Day. Since its inception on August 11, 2021, the industry has been celebrating the day with great pride and joy. Marked each year with pomp and fervour, the occasion stands as a significant reminder of the unity and resilience that bind the industry through both good and challenging times.

According to Ashok Paliwal, National President of the Hair and Beauty Federation of India, more than 65 associations came together for this year’s celebrations under the Federation’s leadership. Across the country, salons were decorated, cakes were cut, sweets were shared, and customers enjoyed special discount offers.

A golden chapter in history

The fifth National Salon Day, observed on August 11, holds a unique place in the chronicles of India’s hair and beauty industry. On August 11, 2020, the industry sent a remarkable 1,94,000 tweets in unison to the Government of India from 157 cities. Earlier, on July 22, 2020, over 100 organisations and groups emailed the Prime Minister and other government bodies. Also, the industry stakeholders held demonstrations in 23 cities in support of a 13-point charter of demands.

Struggle and service during the pandemic

Amid the Covid-19 crisis, associations nationwide, along with hair and beauty professionals and the cosmetic industry, organised training sessions on hygiene, sanitisation, and safety protocols. These initiatives helped control the virus’s spread within the salon industry and among the general public. By engaging with the Government of India, the industry successfully reopened operations. During this period, members also actively supported and encouraged one another, extending both moral and financial assistance.

A celebration of unity, struggle and success

Ashok Paliwal said – “National Salon Day is a celebration of our unity, struggle and success.” Associations of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Himachal Pradesh organized it on a large scale.

The country’s leading hair and beauty artists – Aaleem Hakim, Savio John Pereira, Harish Bhatia, Shyam Bhatia, Uday Takke, Unnati Singh, Madhumita Saikia, Nirmal Randhawa, Indira Ahluwalia, Vipin Dabas, Neeta Parekh, Harshada Takke, Disha Mehar, Shirin Merchant, Seema Jerjani, Pinky Singh, Prakash Parikh, Bina Parikh, Sarita Shrivastava, Tej Bahadur, Usha ji, Rashmi ji, Sayaji Jhunjar, Sanjay Pandit, Tushar Chavan, Jagdish Bhati, Prabhu Sen and Vijay Pratap Savita have played a vital role in inspiring the beauty industry.
