Play carefree as we bring you simple Holi skincare tips!

Holi is here and as you all gear up with gulaal and gujiya, be ready to give your skin a little more TLC after you are done celebrating! Vidhi Arya from Professional Beauty India highlights some simple Holi skincare tips so you can protect your skin and enjoy without any worries.

Holi entails a lot of colours that tend to harm your skin, leaving it dry and damaged. But, is this festival any fun without these vibrant colours? We don’t think so! When you can relish the festival, yet take simple steps to keep your skin safe, isn’t that the best of both worlds? Read along as we sort out the Holi skincare dilemma, so you can enjoy to the fullest!

We all have realised that Holi colours have the potential to wreak havoc on our skin. With their formulations, they often leave our skin dry and dull. Dr. Madhurya Gogineni, Dermatologist at Zennara Clinics Hyderabad tells us, “Holi colours, be it organic or synthetic, can lead to irritation and dryness as they deplete the natural moisture in the skin. And, that’s why it becomes imperative to follow a proper after-Holi regime. It will help hydrate the skin and bring back the lost glow and softness.”

What you can do for your skin right after Holi

Dr Gogineni suggests:

  • “Remove all the colours with an oil-based cleanser or a micellar water.
  • Follow up with a mild face wash. This will ensure that your natural oils are not further stripped off. Avoid scrubbing as it can be harsh because as it is, the skin becomes sensitive after Holi. If absolutely necessary, use a gentle exfoliant.
  • To restore lost moisture, you can use a hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid for deep nourishment. A rich moisturiser with ceramides will also help lock in hydration.
  • Since post-Holi skin is more sensitive, applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher is crucial.
  • For your night-time skincare, use a nourishing night cream or a few drops of facial oil like argan oil. These will help you repair the skin barrier.”

Here’s what you can do before Holi:

  • Apply a generous amount of moisturiser before you step out. Also, for an extra layer of protection, try wearing clothes that cover most parts of your body.
  • Sunscreen is a must before you head out for Holi. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen on your face and body.
  • You can also care for your paints by applying a dark nail polish. You can also use a cuticle oil to protect your cuticles from drying out.

Now that the basics are in place, we hope you have a colourful and playful festival! Professional Beauty India wishes you a very Happy Holi!
