World Digital Detox Day – Plugging Into Wellness

World Digital Detox Day celebrated in Mumbai on 10th December 2023.

World Digital Detox Day International arranged a historic celebration on December 10th, 2023. The epicentre of World Digital Detox Day 2023 was Mumbai’s Gateway of India. The event, uniting 65 countries from December 5th to 12th, emphasized mindful digital engagement.

The extended celebration, starting on December 5th symbolised a collective commitment to a transformative digital detox experience. Distinguished guests included Ireland’s Consul General Ms Anita Kelly. Social activists Manju Lodha, Seema Singh, and Nisha Jamwal (luxury management icon) were also present for the ceremony. Also present were celebrity nutritionist Pooja Makhija, fitness expert Yasmin Karachiwala, Anshuka Yoga (Celebrity Yoga and holistic Wellness Expert), Santosh Patil, and Mikky Mehata (wellness guru).

Dr Ali Iryani, physiotherapist, Malti Jain, SP Jain Global, former MLA S. Shirish Chaudhari, Dr Ganesh Dhumal, Kuldip Sarma, Co-Founder & Pro Chancellor Medhavi Skills University Sikkim also attended the event. Tourism Ministry director Jitendra Jadhav, Agnelorajesh Athaide, Chairman of Global St. Angelo’s group of companies, and Yeshwant Mankhedkar, Ex-director of NYKS were present during the show. WDDD Committe member Sushmita Sarangi represented the Taj Hotel J Wellness Circle while Parineeta Sethi represented Global Spa at the event. Global Wellness ambassador, Rekha Chaudhari, passionately emphasized the need for a conscious separation from the digital world, encouraging a renewed focus on meaningful real-world connections.

RECOGNITION

An award recognized iconic film actor Anupam Kher for his contribution. He played a vital role in the discourse on Digital Detox. His recognition was the highlight of the event. In his address, Kher emphasized the importance of sustained efforts to find balance in the digital age.

EXTENDED CELEBRATION ON WORLD DIGITAL DETOX DAY

Global leaders participated in the WDDD 2023.

The extended celebration included various activities. Literature Writing National Level Competition, MOU signings between universities, and active participation from the Ministry of Women and Child Development were some highlights. Over 1,10,446 schools, 26,15,629 lakh students, and 50,00000 lakh parents engaged in India. It showcases the broad reach of the movement. Letter-writing and oath-taking ceremonies occurred in numerous schools and universities. Lalti Misra and Ganjendra Ahire contributed by playing the viral role of jury members.

Wellness industry lauded the efforts of WDDD.

The wellness industry embraced World Digital Detox Day with passion. Across India, 500 outlets and five temples participated in the movement, showing their support. Beyond India’s borders, 65 ambassadors organized programs in their respective countries. Their efforts make WDDD 2023 a truly global phenomenon.

GLOBAL PARTICIPATION HIGHLIGHTS

Serbia: Ambassador Natasa and her group organized events in Serbia’s renowned wellness resorts, spas, and hotels. They focused on digital detox, healthy lifestyle activities, and connecting with nature.

Bali: Ambassador John TG Nielsen planned a grand celebration in Bali. It emphasized the importance of unplugging and embracing the island’s natural beauty.

Philippines: The Philippine ambassador planned complimentary Digital Detox Activities at The Farm in San Benito. It promoted mindfulness, holistic health, and a deeper connection to nature.

Hungary: The Hungarian ambassador organised a yoga session in Budapest.  The Best Tourism Development Project in Europe supported them in this cause. It offered a unique opportunity for the community to enjoy a digital-free nature experience.

India: The founder of the movement, Dr Rekha Chaudhari orchestrated two mega events for World Digital Detox Day. It engaged over 500,000 schoolchildren in various activities. Citizens wrote 200,000 lakh letters to Prime Minister Modi, promoting the WDDD. Letter-writing and oath-taking ceremonies reached tribal and village areas with significant participation.

Mexico: The Mexican ambassador contributed insights for the pre-celebration.  They also hosted a significant celebration on December 10th.  

United States (Miami): The Miami ambassador set up an innovative session for the general population. It highlights the impact of mobile use while eating on the body, focusing on issues such as obesity and nutrition.

Vietnam: In Vietnam, a mega celebration was organized by wellness experts from Bayanee Tree. It significantly contributed to the global movement. The event featured activities promoting mindfulness and holistic health. It also focussed on the importance of a deeper connection to nature in the digital age.

Dubai: The ambassador organized an awareness campaign, contributing to the global conversation around digital detox.

2024 WORLD DIGITAL DETOX DAY HIGHLIGHTS 

  • The celebration witnessed the release of the first research publication. It sheds light on the impact of digital detox on individuals.
  • An exclusive digital detox anthem was launched, resonating with the spirit of the movement.
  • A cover page for world leaders’ digital detox best practices was launched at the event. It is a comprehensive guide featuring the best practices from world leaders in managing digital engagement.
  • The 5000 Women of Wellness book cover page was also launched. It recognizes and celebrates the role of women in promoting holistic well-being.
  • Global Leaders’ urged the public domain to celebrate WDDD and create awareness. Top leaders from New York, France, Germany, Switzerland, and many more countries have urged everyone to do the same. 

Recognizing digital detox as a burning issue globally, these leaders emphasized the importance of collectively addressing the challenges posed by excessive digital engagement.
