L’Oréal Professionnel Paris has launched its brand cause ‘Head Up’ – an initiative to elevate mental wellness among hair professionals in May, which is the National Hairstylist Mental Health Awareness month. The brand conducted a comprehensive study that revealed mental wellness as the #1 challenge for hair pros across 6 countries.

L’Oréal Professionnel’s ‘Head Up’ initiative recognises May as the National Hairstylist Mental Health Awareness month. Hair professionals spend an average of 2,000 hours a year interacting with and listening to their clients, L’Oreal’s survey stated. L’Oréal conducted the survey conducted with hair professionals in six countries. The findings revealed that mental wellness is the #1 challenge among these hair professionals. Head Up offers resources to hair professionals to build resilience as they continue to deliver their best round the clock.

Mathilde Barthélemy-Vigier, General Manager, L’Oréal Professionnel Paris, commented, “This year, we are going a step further and launching ‘Head Up’, our brand cause to create awareness and education proactively and preventively about the mental wellness of hairdressers. Through this special cause, we are hopeful to create a culture of positive mental wellbeing across the industry.”

Partners

To curate ‘Head Up Keys’, L’Oréal Professionnel Paris has partnered with the NGO, NAMI, and hair professionals across the world. Additionally, it also partnered with the renowned Indian celebrity hairstylist, Hakim Aalim. Furthermore, the mental wellness programme educates health pros in the area of preventive mental wellbeing.

Shweta Sahni, Head of Education, L’Oréal Professionnel Paris, said, “As a hair pro myself, I know how mental wellness is often neglected in our industry. So, working to create resources for our community to elevate mental wellness is a true opportunity and we are confident it is a valuable support to the hair professionals.”

Hakim Aalim said he was thrilled to collaborate with the brand on their program, ‘Head Up For Hair Pros’. The programme will help raise awareness of the mental wellness challenges faced by hairstylists. He also added that the programme will provide them with free accessible mental health resources.

Finally, Head Up keys is free and accessible for all on YouTube and L’Oréal Access. An instructor-led masterclass will support the initiative in collaboration with a local NGO.
