March 7th marks National Hair Donation Day, a day that’s more than a mere date on the calendar. It’s an opportunity for everyone to come together and ensure generosity to empower those who can benefit with hair donation.
Around the globe, many people battle diseases, like cancer and alopecia, that leave them without one of the most beautiful aspects of our being – hair. At such times, a human hair wig can be life-changing for such people. And, in the whole process, the beauty and hair industry has a crucial role to play. We can be the torch bearers who bridge the gap between donors and recipients.
A call for action
On this important day, Ashok Paliwal, President of HBO, Rajasthan, and President of Hair & Beauty Federation, India, has an important message to pass. Spreading awareness and encouraging all to donate, he says, “7 March 2025, on the occasion of National Hair Donation Day, run a campaign and make women aware that they can donate their 12 inches of hair! Inform them that one hair wig is made from 12″ inches of hair of four to five women. Which is given to cancer patients.
Before taking hair donation, shampoo the hair, then blow dry it and make ponytails according to the density of the hair, then cut them in a single line. Keep the cut pony in a polythene bag and pack it tightly. Courier that parcel to Madat Charitable Trust Cope with Cancer, Mangal Anand Hospital, 48 Swastik Park, Chembur, Mumbai 400071 (Ph: 9819063704). Do inform the trust about the donor’s name, mobile number, and email ID.
On the occasion of 7th March, “National Hair Donation Day”, try to donate hair. I especially request hair experts to make women and girls aware in their salons and take their hair donation.”
Make an impact
If you, as an expert or a professional in this industry, aim to make a change, here are a few things you can do to set the wheel in motion:
Raising Awareness
Every day, so many people walk in through salon doors for a haircut. Every now and then we see ladies chopping off their long, luscious hair into short bobs. Only for all of it to go to waste? As a salon, you must ensure to educate and inform your clients about hair donations. You must inform them how it works, how it can impact others, and where they can donate.
You never know, a simple conversation on the salon chair can inspire someone to contribute. Ultimately, you help change lives!
Hosting Hair Donation Drives
Salons can also organise donation drives, partnering with nonprofits that create wigs for patients in need. By offering free or discounted haircuts for donors, you can encourage participation while ensuring donated hair meets the required length and quality standards.
Influencer and Brand Collaborations
Beauty brands, hairstylists, and influencers can leverage social media to spread awareness. Collaborating with charities and showcasing real-life transformations can inspire a broader audience to donate.
