To know more about the trending nail culture and about acrylic nail extensions, here’s the excerpt from the interview.

1. When, What & How of the Nail art and acrylic nail extensions:

When & How:

  • The first nail extension company started in 1954 called Patti Nails by a dentist named Fred Slack, in association with his brother Tom.
  • Fred broke his finger nail at work and created an artificial nail as a realistic-looking temporary replacement.

What:

  • Acrylic nails are artificial nail extensions made by combining a liquid and a powder to create a mixture that is then applied to the natural nails.
  • The mixture hardens when it dries, forming a strong and durable layer that can be shaped and painted like natural nails.

2. Maintenance of acrylic nail extensions:

  • When it comes to care or maintaining acrylic nail extensions, the first thing to remember is to treat them gently.
  • Don’t use your nails as tools to pick things or open tins.
  • Do not use acetone.
  • Keep the skin around your nail healthy by using cuticle oil.
  • Avoid DIY in case of any damage.
  • Don’t try to do the removals at home.
  • Kindly visit the salon and let the expert do their job.

3. Removal:

  • Acrylic nails are exceptionally strong and with right care can last upto 3-4 weeks. Post this period, you will either need removals or refills.
  • The easiest way to remove acrylic nails is to cover them with a cotton ball soaked in pure acetone, wrap your fingers in tin foil, and let them sit for 30 minutes.
  • The acetone will help break down the acrylics, so you can buff or scrape off the rest with an orange stick or cuticle pusher.
  • This process has to be done by a trained nail technician.

Acrylic Nails are harder and stronger than any other extension. It’s good for people who are nail biters and have short nail beds. Recently, the trend of acrylic nails has become even more popular due to the growth of social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, where people can share their nail art designs and showcase their skills. Additionally, celebrities and influencers have also contributed to the trend by sporting elaborate and eye-catching acrylic nails in their public appearances and social media posts.
