We often see that different makeup artists have unique bridal looks as their forte, which often becomes their signature. The artists have a magical wand to enhance a bride’s look with their own personal flair. And, on that note, Vidhi Arya from Professional Beauty India uncovers the secret behind creating signature bridal looks with makeup artist, Cyruss Mathew.
All brides want for their special day is to look like magic, to stand out from the crowd with uniquely mesmerising looks. And, this is where the pressure falls upon the makeup artist to create a signature bridal look. “A signature bridal look is an innovative, novel makeup look for brides that a makeup artist creates with their know-how and craft,” says Cyruss Mathew.
The signature looks an artist creates largely depend on the artist’s vision and inspiration. Whether they aim to create a mood board or a look that brides can carry with grace, it is a call to be taken. “What I create as my signature looks incorporates trending elements. This makes the look appealing for all and makes the brides look elegant and polished. I want people to look at these looks, get encouraged, and use such looks for their clients.”
Trending looks are always in demand. Brides love experimenting with them to enhance their appearance and to stay ahead of the curve. Mathew suggests, “The soft and glam look is extremely trending. It’s great to incorporate it while creating a signature bridal look. We can see the celebrities embracing it in all its glory. Also, there is a heavy demand for it.” Elaborating on what makes this look so special Mathew says, “The best part is that it goes with all kinds of looks and outfits. It is suitable for all functions, be it mehendi, cocktail, engagement, or wedding. You will hardly hear anyone tell you that it’s too light or loud. It’s the perfect way to enhance your natural beauty.”
However, just incorporating trending looks will not suffice. There is always a lot of customisation and personalisation that goes behind creating a stunning look. “The look you create must also depend on the bride — their personality and facial features. Furthermore, their dresses and jewellery also play a part in creating a look that brings out their best. Even when I teach, I always tell my students to customise the look, to give it a personal touch. Always keep in mind what will suit the bride. And, last but most important, consider the suitability of circumstances, whether it’s a day wedding, night wedding, lighting, or stay. All of these play a huge part in deciding the look.”
Commenting on some common mistakes artists make, Mathew explains, “Sometimes artists experiment out of the way and don’t play by the rules. For example, if the client has puffy eyes, they shouldn’t use glitter but they do. Artists need to apply the right knowledge of techniques. Whims and fancies don’t always work. Technical know-how is essential. Moreover, artists must know their products, formulations, and different skin types. All these things come together and finally determine the look. A tailor-made, personalised approach along with the right technique and creativity is the key to perfection.
