Dr Su Suggests: Damaged Skin? Say Hello To Exosomes!

The largest organ in our body, our skin, is susceptible to severe damage with all the external factors it’s exposed to every day. Sun, harsh wind, pollution, rains, and much more have their own ways of wreaking havoc on our skin! Result? Damaged skin that looks dull, uneven, dry, and pigmented. But exosomes can be your skin’s best friend. Wondering how? Read along this conversation with Dr Su and understand better.

Right from age, genetics, pollution, UV rays, and weather conditions, everything around you can have an impact on your skin. Not just external factors, your lifestyle choices like smoking, poor diet, or even lack of sleep can impact your skin. But how do you prevent this damage or reverse it? As, Dr Su recently launched the Exosome Serum – XO Plump Party, Vidhi Arya from Professional Beauty India speaks to Dr Su, Board-Certified Dermatologist, to understand the role of exosomes in tackling skin damage.

Dr Su suggests that when skin is faced with damage, the role of the skin barrier, the outermost layer of the skin, comes into play. It is like a protective shield that keeps the moisture within the skin and keeps the harmful substances out.

As per Dr Su, when we do not care about our skin thoroughly and don’t care for skin health, the issues keep piling up. All of this results in dryness, redness, uneven texture as well as premature ageing. She says, “Think of it like a brick wall. Where the skin cells are the brick and the skin barrier locks in moisture, thereby holding everything together. Until the barrier is compromised and the wall i.e. your skin, needs additional support. This is where Exosomes come into play.”

So, What Are Exosomes?

“Exosomes are microscopic, bubble-like structures released by nearly all cells in the body. These tiny powerhouses are rich in proteins, lipids, and genetic material like RNA, acting as messengers that signal cells to boost collagen production, reduce inflammation, and repair skin cells — key processes for achieving radiant, firm, and youthful-looking skin.”

How Does Exosome Heal the Skin Barrier?

“It’s primary function is to communicate with and signal the body cells to trigger a natural healing process. This tiny molecule holds the power to treat multiple skin concerns which makes it a game-changer in regenerative skincare.”

This is how exosomes help our skin:
  • It helps cells produce more collagen and elastin. It helps skin recover from any damage faster and it also makes skin firmer.
  • Exosomes calm the inflammation in our body caused due to environmental stressors or skin conditions, thereby healing the barrier faster.
  • It improves the production of ceramides which are essential natural fats to strengthen the skin barrier and lock in moisture.
  • It speeds up the skin’s cell turnover time, replacing damaged skin cells with healthy ones which helps in skin regeneration.

Dr Su concludes by saying, “When added to a regular routine, Exosomes results in a better, brighter, firmer, much more hydrated, plump and healthy looking skin free of fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of ageing.”

She further adds, “As Exosomes target skin damage’s root cause, they can be a game changer if you want to achieve hydrated, radiant skin. So, even though traditional skincare does have a place in our routine, Exosomes can be the future of skincare!”
