As the Barbie movie is making headlines, the makeup world is going gaga over the Barbiecore makeup trend. With hues of pink as a star, here is how you can doll up to ride the wave of this aesthetic.
From decades ago, the classic Barbie doll aesthetics inspire the Barbiecore makeup. It embraces femininity, playfulness, and a sense of fantasy. Centred around achieving a soft, doll-like appearance, it focuses on radiant skin, dreamy makeup, and flowy hair. To achieve the Barbie-like look, you must aim for good coverage and a dewy finish. And yes, lots of pinks and glitters! Vidhi Arya from Professional Beauty India got in conversation with Cherag Bambboat, Celebrity MUA, for some simple tips to embrace the elements of Barbiecore aesthetics.
Going Pink
Be it the soft and supple hues or the bold and bright shades, pink, in all its glory, is undoubtedly the star of the look. From eyeshadow to blush to lipstick, you can pick anything in pink to achieve the look.
Says Cherag, “The best practice for Indian skin tones is to not pick all cool tones of pinks, but incorporate warm pinks. Icy pale pinks mostly look good only on fair skin. If you have medium wheatish skin, then the most important thing is to pick up warmer tones of pink, which have a warmer influence.”
On the same lines, talking about creating a balanced look with bright pink lips, Cherag suggests, “All you need to do is make sure that you do not go loud on the eyes and the blush and you just use shades of a lighter pink. ”
All That Glitters
Explaining the beauty of glitters, Cherag mentions, “Whenever a colour shines it just gives you more glow and mostly matte colours have more intensity. The best thing is to pick up blushes and eye shadows which have a little kind of a sheen to it. Which we call a satin or pearl finish eye shadow.”
To elevate the glow element of the Barbiecore look, consider incorporating subtle hints of glitter and shimmer. It could be something as simple as a light dusting of shimmery eyeshadow on the inner corners of your eyes. Or something like a touch of highlighter on the high points of your face will add a captivating glow. One can even go bold with rhinestones.
The ‘Mane’ Point
No Barbiecore look is complete without the perfect hairstyle. Soft, romantic curls, blonde and brunette hair, pastel hair highlights, and feminine accessories. These elements can take your look close to that of Barbie.
When picking a hairstyle to finish the Barbiecore look, Cherag suggests, “I think hairstyles that look amazing for a Barbie-like look are messy updos. If you also go with poker straight head, that’s fine too. And, something that really, really works is when you have soft beach waves. Or if you do soft tongs and open them up with your hand, all these look Absolutely Fabulous.”
Barbiecore makeup and hair look leave us all with nostalgia. The look is truly an ode to our favourite doll. Furthermore, it empowers individuals to express their creativity and individuality. Whether you want to unleash your inner doll or simply add a touch of magic to your look, Barbiecore has infinite possibilities to explore.
