In conversation with Sanket Shah, CEO & Managing Director, Advanced Hair Studio (India Sub Continent & Middle East)

Sanket Shah is the CEO & Managing Director of Advanced Hair Studio (AHS) for India and the Middle East. Sanket has been instrumental in the launch of AHS in India in 2007. Under the guidance of Sanket, AHS is successfully running across Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ludhiana, Pune, Ahmedabad, and Gurgaon. Sanket talks to Professional Beauty on the ever-evolving hair restoration and men’s grooming industry as well as the company’s targeted plans for tier-II & III cities of India.

What is the scope of development for the Hair Restoration and Grooming Industry in
India?

Indians are paying attention to personal grooming and hair care more than ever before. The hair care industry has evolved to a base of INR 22,500 crore. However, awareness is still primarily low about advanced medical solutions which are now available or the need for medical consultations at the early stages of hair loss. The growing demand, acceptance, disposable income and lifestyle requirements are a few reasons that hint huge scope for the industry to develop in India.

What are the key trends mapped in the Indian grooming industry in the last few years?
The journey of the Indian grooming and wellness industry from small scale parlors to offering 360-degree solutions for complete personality enhancement has been tremendous. The once fragmented and informal sector plagued with low awareness and limited exposure to futuristic solutions today has grown adequately to muster the government’s intervention for start-up India initiatives and skill development measures. Few key trends mapped in the last few years are rise of the male grooming industry, product innovation, demand from tier II & III Cities and increasing consumption and acceptance.

What about targeting smaller Indian markets?
In line with our vision to drive awareness around increasing hair loss challenges and to enable the discerning consumers to access personalized consultation, Advanced Hair Studio organizes consultation camps in tier-II and tier-III cities in India. These initiatives focus on educating people on the different causes behind early hair-loss, hair thinning and balding concerns across age groups. The team of medical experts, trichologists, and stylists further offer a personalized consultation on the ways to combat the hair-loss challenges. So far, we have organized consultation camps in India across tier-II and tier-III cities, namely, Vijayawada, Coimbatore, Mangalore, Jaipur, Vadodara, Ludhiana, etc.

How has the business been in India viz-a-viz on other continents?
India as a country is quite complex and Advanced Hair Studio has always treated India as acontinent, not just a country. We have focused on each region quite separately and we have customized our counseling and our consultation’s approach based on region. The industry has its own set of pros and cons, but India’s present and the future is looking very promising.

What are your expansion plans for FY’20-’21?
Advanced Hair Studio certainly is on expansion and also on forward and backward integration model. This is not just limited to India but other parts of the world as well. So, in India, we are certainly looking at expanding our network to cities like Surat, Indore, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kolkata, Trivandrum, Coimbatore, and Guwahati. Also, around the world, we are focusing on our network in countries mainly in Asia, and Central and South America and a few parts of Europe. The need of the hour is to focus on overall grooming for gender, male and female and we also wish to add several other world-class procedures, certain technologies, and methodologies to make that happen.
