In an exclusive interview with Vidhi Arya, Reena Sheth,World Wellness Weekend Ambassador for India and APAC uncovers how India’s wellness legacy is being shaped for global relevance.
India’s wellness sector is undergoing a powerful renaissance, thanks to voices like Reena Sheth, newly appointed World Wellness Weekend Ambassador for India and APAC. In an exclusive conversation with Professional Beauty, she shared her ambitious plans to spotlight India’s diverse wellness systems on global platforms.
“India’s wellness systems are not monolithic, they are layered, regional, and deeply lived,” says Reena. From Ayurveda and yoga to sacred movement and food wisdom, she believes that wellness in India goes far beyond resorts and spas. Sheth aims to amplify these traditional formats through emotionally resonant storytelling, encouraging venues to translate rituals into meaningful experiences.
She plans to use World Wellness Weekend as a launchpad inviting Indian practitioners to host free sessions aligned with the 5 Pillars of Wellness (Sleep, Nutrition, Movement, Mindfulness, Purpose). Through the Wellness Map, even a local yoga studio or beauty salon can reach global wellness seekers.
As a board member of the Asia Pacific Spa & Wellness Coalition (APSWC), Reena envisions India as a collaborative force in APAC. Her plans include regional wellness circuits, cross-country therapist exchange programmes, and active engagement in policy discussions.
To further strengthen wellness tourism, Sheth calls for robust government support. She advocates investment in vocational training, assistance for wellpreneurs and MSMEs, and coordinated promotion by ministries like AYUSH, Tourism, MSME, and Culture.
“The goal is not dominance,” she adds, “but meaningful contribution where wellness becomes a lifestyle, a livelihood, and a cultural legacy.”
