L’Oréal GCC in Hyderabad

L’Oréal is deepening its India commitment by setting up a major Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, elevating the country to a strategic global tech, innovation, and leadership hub for the beauty giant.

French cosmetics major L’Oréal is preparing to significantly strengthen its India footprint with one of its biggest Global Capability Centres (GCCs) planned in Hyderabad. According to news reports, the new hub will support global technology, digital innovation, analytics and research mandates for the company. It’ll be distinct from its existing operations in Mumbai and Bengaluru, which primarily serve regional functions. The GCC project was a key agenda item during the recent visit of L’Oréal’s global board to India, led by CEO Nicolas Hieronimus, underscoring the strategic priority India now holds for the brand.

A major expansion in India’s fast-growing GCC landscape

Hyderabad has rapidly emerged as one of the world’s most dynamic destinations for Global Capability Centres. It’s attracting several multinational giants for their advanced technology and digital mandates. L’Oréal’s decision to establish a standalone global tech centre in the city further reinforces this momentum.

Unlike its current India-based units, which focus on market-specific needs, the Hyderabad GCC will be integrated into L’Oréal’s global network. It’ll be taking on complex, high-value work and lead initiatives such as:

  • Advanced technology development
  • Digital transformation programs
  • AI/ML-based consumer intelligence
  • Data engineering and analytics
  • Innovation aligned with global R&D and product development

This shift marks a significant upgrade in the company’s overall operations in India, moving from execution and support toward global leadership and innovation.

L’Oréal strengthening global leadership from India

L’Oréal has already begun the process of building a strong senior leadership foundation for the new GCC. The company is actively hiring for senior roles in digital, engineering, product, and enterprise platforms. In a move that highlights the importance of the centre, it is also evaluating leadership candidates from its Paris headquarters.

The talent search is focused on executives with expertise in:

  • Cloud technologies
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Consumer tech and digital product development
  • Large-scale enterprise systems

India: From market to growth engine

L’Oréal currently holds close to 8% of India’s face-care market—far behind Hindustan Unilever, which commands more than 40%. Despite this, India continues to be a high-priority growth market for the brand.

The company operates three major research hubs in France along with regional centres in the US, Japan, China, Brazil, South Africa and India. The latest push comes even as L’Oréal India’s growth moderated to 5% in FY25, compared with 14% in the previous year and nearly 30% in the two years before that, amid intensifying competition from direct-to-consumer, youth-focused beauty brands.

India currently contributes just over 1% of L’Oréal’s global revenue—around ₹4,100 crore—and ranks as its 15th-largest market. With rising digital-first consumer behaviour, a booming beauty and personal care market, and strong local innovation capabilities, L’Oréal expects India to break into its top ten markets in the coming years, with ambitions to hit ₹1,000 crore in annual revenue.

A strategic bet for L’Oréal on India’s future

From appointing Jacques Lebel as India Country Manager in July to setting up a globally aligned GCC, L’Oréal is clearly doubling down on India—not just as a market but as a strategic global operations base. The Hyderabad centre reflects the company’s long-term belief in India’s talent, technology ecosystem, and its growing influence in global beauty and consumer innovation.
