Lubrizol launches Sensomer Tara polymer

To enhance customer sensory experience in skin care, hair care and hair colour formulations, Lubrizol Life Science Beauty (LLS Beauty) has officially launched its new Sensomer Tara polymer – a multifunctional, biodegradable natural film former and thickener. The product is derived from a gum made from the tara tree, also known as Peruvian carob or spiny holdback. It was previewed at in-cosmetics 2023 in Barcelona.

As per the manufacturer for Lubrizol, at a concentration of 2%, Sensomer Tara polymer can reach viscosity of 40,000 mPa∙s. This enables creation of high-viscosity formulations for a thicker, creamier and silkier feel in beauty formulations, including moisturisers, sunscreens, hair conditioners, styling products and  colour treatments.

Silkier Feeling Skin

The new Sensomer Tara polymer claims to have a silky feel with no drag or stickiness on skin. Its creamy texture provides good pickup with no stringiness.

A blind test performed by 6 expert sensory panellists revealed the ingredient was softer and less sticky during application.

It also has a synergy with Kelco-Care diutan gum that increases the yield value, leading to sturdier emulsion stabilisation and higher viscosity.

Advantages For Hair Care

Sensomer Tara by Lubrizol has anti-pollution properties which when added to conditioners and other hair treatments, protects the hair fiber against particle adhesion. It provides a smoother texture and is easy to spread. It shows better curl retention and a softer feel than guar gum when it comes to styling applications.

Ultimately, in colouration it enables no-drip rheology for a better consumer experience.

100% Nature Friendly

The Sensomer Tara polymer is easily biodegradable (according to OECD 301F) and has a natural origin index of 100% (according to ISO16128). COSMOS approved, the ingredient is vegan suitable and microbiome friendly. It is obtained by a 100% mechanical process undertaken on the Tara (Caesalpinia Spinosa or Tara Spinosa) seed endosperm. This in turn gives the polymer a high sustainability profile.
