The second day of the Modern Barber Challenge 2026 showcased technical mastery. Specifically, competitors pushed their skills to the limit in the Creative Scissors and Hair Tattoo categories.
The Modern Barber Challenge 2026, held alongside Professional Beauty India Delhi, continued to raise the bar on Day 2. India’s leading barbers competed in two of the competition’s most demanding categories: Creative Scissors and Hair Tattoo.
Throughout, judges evaluated every cut, texture, and design detail. As a result, the competition highlighted the craftsmanship, creativity, and precision that define modern barbering today.
Creative Scissors: A Test of Pure Cutting Skill
The day opened with the Creative Scissors category. The judging panel included JJ Savani, Creative Director, Global Stylist Blueprint & ONE Studios UK; Michael Kontos, Co-Founder & Creative Director, London School of Barbering; Prathamesh Sawant, Co-Founder, Nomad Barber, Mumbai; and Vinu (The Fat Barber), winner of the Modern Barber Challenge Delhi 2025.
Competitors had 45 minutes to create a complete haircut using scissors as their primary tool. Clippers were prohibited. However, texturising scissors, feather razors, and trimmers were permitted only for finishing touches, placing the emphasis firmly on traditional barbering skills.
Judges assessed each entry on several key parameters, including:
- Scissor control
- Structure and shape
- Weight distribution
- Texture
- Finish
- Mastery of traditional barbering techniques
Overall, the category demonstrated that exceptional barbering goes beyond speed. Instead, competitors showcased their understanding of balance, movement, and precision, producing polished cuts that reflected both technical discipline and creative vision.
Hair Tattoo: Where Hair Becomes a Canvas
Next, the afternoon featured the Hair Tattoo category. Judges included Jay Pawar, Chief Training Officer, Rawls Salon; JJ Savani; Uday Takke, Founder, Uday Takke Hair Care Products & SkinAmore Skin Care Products; and Wazid Ali, Chairman & Director, CLO & FLO Salon.
Barbers were challenged to create intricate hair tattoo designs, seamlessly integrated into precision fades, within 45 minutes. Artificial enhancements were not permitted. As a result, every design reflected technical ability and artistic vision alone.
Judging focused on:
- Creativity
- Precision
- Symmetry
- Design clarity
- Difficulty level
- Seamless integration with the haircut
From bold geometric patterns to detailed freehand artwork, participants transformed hair into a canvas. In doing so, they demonstrated the growing influence of artistic barbering within the industry.

Specifically, the emphasis on technical excellence, creativity, and professional discipline encouraged competitors to showcase not only their talent but also their understanding of contemporary barbering standards.
