Getting to know Olga Mumber
Olga Mumber started her career as an administrator in a beauty salon in Russia. She saw the nail techs at work. She was not satisfied with the options offered to the clientele and thought the simplicity of the options was soulless. The art was missing and she knew she could do better!
That thought led her to one of the best art schools. After two months of education, she had an international certificate in professional nail tech. And the dream of creating the beautiful designs that were missing. Today she owns a business in Madrid called Mumber One Salon and believes each of her clients is special and unique. She is a Russian Manicure and nail extension expert and advises all her clients to try it at least once.
“Get a Russian Manicure once and you will never want to go back to the normal ones”, Olga quotes.
What is Russian Manicure?
Russian manicure is basically a nail drill. It has many types of drill bits for different skin types. In this process, the scissors and clippers are used to cut the nails. Post that, the nails are cleaned thoroughly with the drill bits.
The main purpose of a Russian manicure is to deep clean the nails enough that the polish can be applied under the cuticle. With this technique, nails look freshly manicured for upto 3 weeks instead of one.
After experiencing a Russian manicure you will not want to go back to normal ones.
Inspiration for Mumber One Nail Art
When Olga was asked what keeps her inspired in creating new nail art, this is what she said:
“At the age of 15, my friends and I would buy plastic nail sets and paint our hearts out. From there till now, I have never stopped experimenting. It is difficult to be inspired after 8 years of constant work in the industry. However, I have my bag of tricks. I try to associate every image that catches my attention with nail art. Antique chandelier, a friend’s colourful shoes, the fluff of neighbours dogs, patterns, textures, everything is an inspiration for me. I try to remember attractive images that intrigued me and I try to implement them in my work.
A run of a mill nail art without any add-ons can take upto 30 minutes. But a beautifully painted watercolor nail set can take anywhere from 2 hours to infinity. It depends on the amount of creativity required to create this intricate albeit temporary art.”
Behind the curtain of beauty
Since 2021, Olga has lived in Europe and handled some of the tough clients. Bitten nails are a sign of anxiety and a nightmare for nail techs. But nail techs are the ones who provide a solution to this severe problem. Handling the severe cases of anxiety is a tough job. Olga says, “The main principle is to work slowly and carefully and to forget about perfection: the first 3 manicures will not give you an ideal result. Bitten nails should be taken care of constantly during 3 or more manicure sessions to have a healthy beautiful look. Most of my clients are from the 25 to 40 age range and each client is equally important to me.”
