The Body Shop became the first global beauty brand to achieve 100 per cent vegan formulations certified by The Vegan Society.

The Body Shop becomes the first beauty brand globally to have all of its products across skin, body, hair, beauty and fragrance ranges to be certified 100 per cent vegan by The Vegan Society. 

The brand was founded in 1989 with the belief that no animals should be harmed in pursuit of beauty. It recently became the first beauty retailer to protest against animal testing in cosmetics. Further, it has announced that it is also the first beauty brand to offer a 100% certified vegan assortment to its customers globally.

Last June, the brand celebrated a historic win in Canada with the federal government’s commitment to ban cosmetic animal testing, the sale of cosmetics that rely on new animal testing data to establish product safety and the printing of false or misleading labelling related to animal testing nationwide. While the fight to ban animal testing globally continues, for The Body Shop a fully vegan product portfolio was the next milestone in cruelty-free beauty.

Throughout the year, the brand will further expand its product range. New products will hit the shelves by as early as January 2024 starting with a full power floral fragrance range. It’ll be followed by new products added to their popular peppermint range. It will be expanding beyond foot care items to adding a shower gel and body lotion in the fragrance. 

The vegan cosmetics industry is likely to grow by 6.31 per cent compound annual growth rate between 2023-28. Furthermore, It is likely to reach $24 billion by 2028. Over one in ten young people said that ‘vegan’ is an important factor in their health and beauty purchase decisions. Hence, this move from The Body Shop also caters to growing customer demands.

The Vegan Society represents the global gold standard in vegan certification. It is applicable across multiple industries and hence it’s a trustworthy trademark for The Body Shop products. The certification process is very thorough. It includes a detailed assessment of every supplier and manufacturer of raw materials within the product catalogue. For The Body Shop, over 4000 ingredients needed validation for over 1000 products to carry the stamp.

Customers can purchase the range both online and offline at their stores. They will continue to sell old stocks as well till they sell out. However, the brand will keep adding new certified stocks to the available collection.
