Recently human hair extensions have grown in popularity. Many people look for a quick and easy way to transform their hairstyle. This has resulted in a thriving human hair extension industry, notably in India.

The demand for hair extensions has increased due to the growing trend of hair styling and fashion. India is one of the largest exporters of human hair extensions in the world. Chennai, Tirupati, and Jaipur are among the major production centers. But what makes Indian hair extensions so popular all over the world?

According to Vinit, the reason behind the popularity of Indian hair is purely because of hair’s texture and structure. “So, you can bleach Indian hair to the lightest level, but European hair and Russian hair usually can’t undergo bleaching because they are pretty weak,” Vinit said. “Hence, hair from India is usually very, very popular because of the structure. When bleached, Chinese hair becomes straight, mismatching most textures.”

When asked about the demand, Vinit points to a few factors, “firstly, people are now more open towards things like these, initially it was only the Bollywood celebrities and the glamour world who were into hair extensions. The second reason is because of the social media exposure. Third reason is purely because, after the Covid vaccination, a lot of women have started losing hair, and that has become very, very common. Hence, they use toppers and permanent extensions for natural-looking volume and coverage.”

“Alchemane exclusively offers the highest quality double drawn Remy hair, which is considered the best in the hair extensions category.” He further explains various hair extension types like permanent, clip-on, and toppers for women with hair loss in their salons/stores.

He claims that when it comes to the procurement process, they typically purchase the hair from temples. “We usually buy the hair from temples, then we process it at our factory, and then we basically convert them into different extensions. Most of them are handmade and not machine made because machine made usually are not of good qualities. So, these are all handmade, and then we wash it, rinse it, and then we make them a little more wearable, and then get them at the store.”

Vinit attributes the rapid growth in the hair extension industry to the increasing popularity of social media as well. “As a greater number of people have become social media conscious, they want to have glamorous hair, volume, they want to look different and they want to experiment with various looks. Hence, it greatly contributes to the rapid growth of hair extensions.”

The industry’s rapid growth is not likely to stop. We anticipate it will continue further. It’s a clear result of the growing demands and the ever-changing fashion and beauty industry trends.
