Barbie’s arched foot stirred something old, something fantastic. Today is the glorious day everyone awaited. Barbie the movie releases today and we are here to tell you how the childhood fantasy, numerous controversies, and changing forms of Barbie and Ken came alive on the big screen.
Breathing Life into Barbie
A few days ago, the international authorities declared a shortage of the colour pink. The reason? Making of Barbie the Movie!
The designers, stylists, and crew of the movie bought the plastic Barbie mansions, and pink car, the life dream. The make-up artists and stylists deserve special compliments. Hair and makeup artist Ivana Primorac brought about the miracle on the screen. In one of her exclusive interviews, Ivana stated, the shine and perfection of Barbie are not worldly, not human. If you can think of what would be the best version of yourself, it would be when your hair looks the nicest when your skin is blemish-free. Your hair is the best colour that suits you. The plastic sheen doesn’t contain it – the dolls were just made out of plastic material.
Using these dolls for inspiration, Ivana created a perfect version of blood and bones. The designers created individual Barbie and Ken designs with proportion in mind. They meticulously crafted the symmetry of shoulders, uniformity of skin tones, perfectly coiffed hair, and a sunny smiling face. Every Barbie had her own makeup and hair team that made sure their individuality was nothing but perfection in every aspect.
The creators made the face, body, and hair to perfection, giving them extra glow, extra volume, and extra uniformity that set the actors apart from humans. The challenging part was shaping up the nails, toes, and heels. The dry and dirty body parts that dolls do not possess. The Barbie teams faced the challenge head and the reflection is what we saw in the teaser.
Keeping the legend alive
It’s not just the makeup and take that has mesmerised the world. Barbie’s advertising and marketing team went above board, in literally, all aspects!
They erected a huge Barbie mansion, all shiny, new, and pink, ready to be rented by AirBnB. The beloved Candy Crush game now sports a Barbie and Ken theme. Once again, brilliant makeup artists carefully curated the premier looks, and they designed each outfit to perfection. A simple pink poster with just a release date was probably the best piece of copywriting by the team. Sometimes words work the best unsaid.
One of the best parts of the movie release is going to the cinema all dolled up. Pun intended!
