Sugar Cosmetics, a beauty and personal care business has reached the point of profitability. Since its inception, it was in December 2023 that the company turned profitable. Reviewing the financial performance thus far, the company is confident that in a few years, it’ll be ready for an IPO.

Sugar Cosmetics anticipates the robust profitability experienced in December will extend throughout Q4 of the 2024 financial year. Despite inflationary challenges affecting demand in Q1 and Q2, the company witnessed an 89% revenue surge in the 2023 financial year, accompanied by reduced losses.

January has shown strong demand, with positive sentiments expected to persist both in stores and on the e-commerce platform. As of now, the brand has already crossed Rs 500 crore revenue in FY-24 and expects to close FY24 at a revenue higher than 500 crore.

The Strength is in Staying Relevant

Sugar Cosmetics boasts a massive following on social media platforms like Instagram and YouTube. A massive following of 2.8 million on Instagram and 1.7 million on YouTube gives the company a robust community of people who are passionate towards the brand. The CEO, Vineeta Singh believes that their greatest strength has been content and community.

The massive following on social platforms has also helped the company to closely connect with users and understand their needs. Singh thinks that they have cracked the code of staying relevant in a competitive market. Getting the execution right, having a short feedback loop and innovating faster than competitors is what Sugar Cosmetics is doing.

The Path Ahead for Sugar Cosmetics

At present, products from Sugar Cosmetics are available in approximately 50,000 outlets. Furthermore, the brand also boasts of nearly 200 stores. In the present year, the company aims to spread its presence to around 60,000 stores. The company further aims to continue operations from 200-250 stores of its own. Additionally, as per the CEO, Sugar Cosmetics aims to expand its distribution network and make the products physically available in more towns.

Expanding the categories where Sugar Cosmetics operates is likely to increase the future revenue of the brand. Recently, in collaboration with Kareena Kapoor, Sugar launched the skincare brand Quench. Now, as Sugar Cosmetics operates in the realm of colour cosmetics, Quench will be a skincare player in a Rs 25,000 crore market. Finally, the company is looking at a two-to-three-year timeline before listing on the market with an IPO. The CEO believes it is crucial to have a solid track record of profitability before making the company public. Also, this timeline aligns with the company’s initial objective to go public with a 1000 crore revenue mark and profits.
