The salon industry in India is incredibly expansive, and salon owners are the driving force of this industry. With a view to bringing the owners in unison and providing them with a platform to highlight their needs and concerns before the government, the Chamber of Trade and Industry launched the Salon Owners Council on July 14, 2023.

The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) Women Council inaugurated the Salon Owners Council on July 14, 2023 at Vidhan Sabha, New Delhi. Distinguished individuals, including CTI Chairman Brijesh Goyal, CTI General Secretary Vishnu Bhargav, and CTI Women’s Council President Malvika Sahni attended the inauguration. Furthermore, Hon’ble IAS Officer Abhishek Singh and Hon’ble Deputy Speaker of Delhi Legislative Assembly Rakhi Birla honoured the event with their presence. Both graced the occasion as the chief guests. CTI also elected Nirmal Randhawa, ace makeup artist and owner of Indica Makeover Studio, as the president of the Salon Owners Council during the ceremony.

Be it sealing drives that force shut salons, high GST rates, or licensing — salon owners have continued to face innumerable difficulties. During COVID-19, the lockdown had an unprecedented impact on the industry. It was only after the phase that the salon industry felt the need for a unified body. One that takes steps for the betterment of the salons. And, highlights its needs and problems before the government authorities and get the requisite support. As per Nirmal Randhawa, this is what set the wheels in motion for the formation of the Council.

The core aim of the Salon Owner Council

While speaking to Professional Beauty India on occasion of the council launch Nrimal Randhawa said, “salon industry is very vast. There are salons at every street and corner. The two extremes of the spectrum have stark differences — in rates, earnings, licensing, and problems faced. It is a platform for all owners to raise their concerns and bring their thoughts to the forum”.

She further added, “It is also a forum to hold healthy discussions that will benefit the industry as a whole.  The council will forward all matters raised before it to CTI and thereafter the appropriate government authority to get the relevant solution.  By the way of this council, we aim to unify salon owners pan India.”

Unnati Singh, International Beauty Educator and Owner of Unnati Singh Salon, while discussing the benefit of this council, explained, “through the Council, the projects and schemes will be put up on cabinet, state, or central level and will be made known to all.”

The Council will be instrumental in finding effective solutions to salon owner’s problems. It’s a positive step towards a brighter future.
